Server & Hosting 9to5Mac.com pointed out Phil Schiller's comments from Monday's WWDC 2013 keynote, which may have gotten a little lost in the general buzz caused by the introduction of the futuristic-looking Mac Pro.
"The relevant team is hard at work on a new version of Final Cut Pro X that will be able to take advantage of all the power and potential of this machine."
We know the Mac Pro has a pair of fast ATI GPUs and plenty of Thunderbolt ports. It also has a very fast, but for now mysterious and not very explained, PCIe-based internal storage. Thunderbolt 2 is specified to use a 3840x2160 display, meaning a "4K" monitor, and Phil Schiller mentioned several times on Monday that the Mac Pro can handle even more such monitors.
According to Schiller's hints, the next version of Final Cut will be focused on 4K editing and production.
Above all, it is clear from this that Apple is preparing to update the Cinema Display with 4K/Retina resolution...
Save on PCIx is an obvious step. Cards with ssd directly on the PCIx bus are already being sold to avoid the "slow" sata interface. But the OS must be able to boot and work with the disk outside the sata interface. The speed is really around 1GB/s on current technologies, but it is possible that for economic reasons apple will use cheaper ssd chips in the strip due to almost doubling the speed.
