Michal Ždanský Two days ago we wrote that discovered a new subcategory in iTunes in the category Films in Czech containing films with Czech subtitles. However, it was not possible to see the Czech subtitles in the list of included languages, and even after buying the films, as some of our readers pointed out, it was not possible to turn on the Czech subtitles. It all looked like one big mystification on the part of Apple.
However, upon closer examination of the entire subcategory, we discovered that there are finally Czech subtitles to be found here. First and foremost, this is a movie Spring Breakers, which has Czech subtitles set to hard. The preparation of a subtitled version of this film was also previously mentioned by Blue Sky Movie, under which the image falls. And while they are Spring Breakers the only film with declared Czech subtitles in the description, we can find Czech in other places as well.
Specifically, this is the case with samples from films. If the film has a classic trailer, we will not encounter Czech here. However, if instead you can find a few-minute excerpt from the film, in many cases it also includes Czech subtitles. This applies to movies, for example Serenity, Vertigo, Fast and Furious 6, The Sting, Sophie's Choice, The Scorpion King, Ingorious Basterds, trollhunter, Pitch Black, Children of Men and others, in total there are several dozens of images.
So what does that mean? When Czech subtitles appear in excerpts from the film, it means that they actually exist for the given film, although they are not yet available. Apple apparently published the new subcategory prematurely, before it had time to implement Czech subtitles so that users can see them in iTunes, on iOS devices or on Apple TV. On the other hand, one of our readers claims that he managed to make both the subtitles and the movie available Thor on Apple TV 1st generation.
All almost 150 films will indeed be able to be watched with subtitles, although not immediately. This is a big shift for the Czech viewer, until now it was only possible to watch films with Czech dubbing (currently around 120 films), as far as the mother tongue is concerned, the subtitles will be appreciated especially by those who prefer to see films in the original version.
That is awesome. Essential for me. The second thing is the price of titles. If I can have an original carrier for the same price, which is very often the case, then of course I prefer to buy that one. But I'm still happy - sometimes people are lazy or want to watch the movie right away, so then they'll pay a few bucks more :-)
I find it a bit silly to think if there are subtitles or not. If a film is included in a category, then it should meet the given criteria, otherwise it should not be there at all.
Personally, I am very curious if I will see subtitles for Startrek 2, which I bought today, even though it doesn't have Czech subtitles in this section. It doesn't really bother me, because they are English, but my wife requires Czech.
Not all movies with Czech subtitles are in the category movies with Czech subtitles. I don't know how big a shift it is for the Czech viewer. Support told me to wait
it would still require a shift in prices or Google will overtake them again like with music.
As soon as it happens, I will easily start paying for such a service :-).
