Tracking apps are very popular on mobile devices, so we can find countless of them in the App Store. Choosing the most suitable one can seem like a non-trivial problem, especially when we spend a few crowns on it. Celsius it is a good choice to buy due to its low price and enough features.

The whole name of the application is quite mind-boggling – Celsius - Weather & Temperature on your Home Screen – so let's simply abbreviate it to Celsius for this article. It is a universal application for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, which many Apple users will appreciate. You can also find a sister app in the App Store Fahrenheit, the only difference of which is the display of temperature in degrees Fahrenheit.

As the longer name suggests, Celsius (and Fahrenheit) is able to display the current temperature using a badge with a number above the app icon. In most cases, the number in the badge corresponds to the current temperature, but sometimes they can differ. This is due to the fact that the number in the badge is just a regular push notification that is updated only at certain intervals. If you run Celsius and the temperature outside has changed, the number in the badge may not be current. However, this is not a major problem, sooner or later the correct temperature would appear in that red circle.

Another problem associated with displaying the temperature using a push notification is that the numbers in the badge can only be natural (ie 1, 2, 3, …), but in practice we usually encounter temperatures below 1 °C. However, the developers solved this dilemma simply. If the temperature drops below zero, a notification can be set for this action. The badge above the application is missing above the application in this case. At temperatures of -1 °C and below, only the minus sign is removed.

However, with the arrival of iOS 5, Celsius may have lost its meaning for many, as Apple placed a weather widget in the notification bar, which I already wrote about when it was released iOS 5 second beta.. It can also find your location using GPS.

It goes without saying that you can set any number of locations for which you want to monitor the weather. In addition, you choose one of them as primary so that the application can display its temperature in the badge. You can move between individual applications by classically swiping from side to side.

In addition to the current state and temperature, Celsius also shows the current wind speed and direction, as well as its predicted tendency. Tapping on a specific day will display the forecast for four-hour intervals. For each day, you see eight "mini-predictions" of sorts. Furthermore, after clicking on the day, the predicted amount and probability of precipitation, UV index, sunset and sunrise will be displayed. In addition, humidity, atmospheric pressure, visibility, current precipitation amount, relative temperature and dew point are displayed for the current today. There is more than enough information displayed for the common mortal.

Below the display there are five buttons for starting animations. Specifically, it is a cloud, temperature, precipitation and wind radar. The fifth button with a satellite is used to start the animation of satellite images. However, these are only informative maps rather than exact data. The other two buttons belong to Twitter and Facebook. Do you want to become a social frog for your friends? You can start right with Celsius.

The graphic processing of the application cannot be faulted. The interface is simple and clean without unnecessary frills. If you don't like the default light theme, you can set a dark version.

There is also a free version of Celsius in the App Store, which contains advertising and does not contain a 10-day forecast or radars. Weather data for Celsius is provided by a well-known company foreca.
