On Tuesday, Apple sent out emails to former MobileMe users notifying them that they had run out of the extra iCloud storage they got for free as subscribers to the previous service. Those who do not subscribe to iCloud again will only get 5GB of storage.

iCloud was introduced in 2011 with 5GB of free storage where users could store photos, data from iOS devices and other documents. For those who previously used MobileMe and paid for a larger amount of free space, Apple also offered a larger space on iCloud for free. Originally, this event was supposed to last a year, but eventually Apple extended it until September 30 of this year.

Now even former MobileMe users have to pay for iCloud. From $20 per year for 10GB of space to $100 per year for 50GB. For those who have not used more than 5 GB, the limit will be automatically reduced to this limit. Users who have more than 5GB of data in iCloud have two options - either pay for more space or have backups and syncing temporarily suspended until they delete enough data.
