In some cases, choosing headphones that literally fit is like chemical experiments. Each person has a different curved ear, some people are comfortable with ear buds, others with plugs, ear clips or headphones. I usually get by with regular Apple headphones, but I don't disdain headphones from Beats and other brands.

However, last week I had the honor of testing the brand new Bose QuietComfort 20 headphones designed specifically for the iPhone. These are equipped with Noise Canceling technology, which can suppress ambient noise, but at the same time, thanks to the new Aware function, the headphones allow you to perceive your surroundings when necessary. Just press the button on the remote control, which also controls the volume.

Above all, the elimination of ambient sound (noise canceling) is a fundamental innovation in the new plugs from Bose, because until now such technology could only be found in headphones. With the Bose QuietComfort 20, it also makes its way into in-ear headphones for the first time.

Bose headphones have always belonged and belong to the top of the audio accessory market. So it's clear that right from the start I set my expectations for sound quality very high. I am definitely not disappointed, the sound quality is more than good. I also own the second version of UrBeats wired headphones and I can clearly state that the new headphones from Bose are several classes higher.

I'm a multi-genre enthusiast when it comes to music, and I don't disdain any notes, except for the brass band. Headphones from Bose stood up to harder techno, rock or metal, as well as to light and fresh indie folk, pop and serious music. Bose QuietComfort 20 coped with everything, and thanks to the elimination of ambient noise, I literally enjoyed a symphony orchestra.

The noise canceling technology brings with it one peculiarity at the end of the cable. In order for such small in-ear headphones to be able to reduce ambient noise, there is a rectangular box a few millimeters wide and completely rubberized at the end of the cable, which serves as an accumulator driving the aforementioned technology.

Another interesting feature of the Bose QuietComfort 20 is related to the elimination of ambient noise. The Aware function can be activated on the remote control, which ensures that you can hear life around you despite the active reduction of ambient noise. Imagine the following situation: you are standing at the station or airport, thanks to the noise canceling you can fully enjoy the music, but at the same time you do not want to miss your train or plane. At that moment, just press the button, start the Aware function, and you can hear what the announcer is saying.

However, you must have the volume of the music played at a reasonable level. If you play the QuietComfort 20 at full blast, you won't hear much from your surroundings even with the Aware function activated.

If the mentioned battery runs out, the ambient noise reduction will stop working. Of course, you can still listen to music. The headphones are charged via the included USB cable, which takes about two hours. Then the Bose QuietComfort 20 can reduce ambient noise for a decent sixteen hours. The battery charge status is indicated by green lights.

Holds like nails

I've always struggled with all earplugs and earbuds falling out of my ears. So I gave UrBeats to my girlfriend and sold many more. I only have a few headphones left at home and one behind the ears that I use for sports.

For this reason, I was pleasantly surprised that, thanks to the comfortable silicone inserts, the Bose QuietComfort 20 headphones did not fall out even once, both during sports and during normal walking and listening at home. Bose uses the StayHear technology for these headphones, so not only do the headphones stay inside the ear, but they also sit well and securely attach to the earlobe between the individual cartilages. I also like that the headphones don't press anywhere, and you practically don't even know you're wearing them.

I have also always been bothered by the fact that with most in-ear headphones, I could hear not only my steps but sometimes my heartbeat, which is quite unnatural, when I was walking around the city. With Bose headphones, all this has disappeared, mainly thanks to the noise canceling technology.

In addition to a comfortable fit, the headphones also have a multi-function controller, which most users know well from classic headphones. So I can easily control not only the volume, but also switch songs and receive calls. In addition, the controller also offers a connection with the intelligent assistant Siri or you can use it to launch a Google search. Then just say what you're looking for or need, and everything will be displayed on the connected device. Very practical and smart.

Something for something

Unfortunately, headphones also have their weaknesses. It must be mentioned that the classic round wire suffers from tangling, and even though Bose includes a custom-made case for the headphones, I still have to untangle the headphones after each removal. The second and more significant weakness of the new Bose headphones is the already mentioned battery. The cable that goes from it to the jack is very short, so I would be worried about how the contacts and connections will hold up in the future.

The second ailment associated with the rectangular battery is that it is not very compact and always takes a beating in the pocket together with the device. The same is true in a shoulder bag, when the device is pressed against the iPhone. Fortunately, the entire surface is rubberized with silicone, so there is no risk of chafing, but just handling the headphones and the iPhone always causes something to get stuck somewhere, especially when I need to quickly pull out the phone.

When it comes to the design of the headphones, it's obvious that care has been taken. The cable is made in white-blue color and the shape of the headphones itself is great. I also appreciate that the package includes a handy case that has a mesh pocket in it, in which you can easily store the headphones.

The Bose QuietComfort 20 headphones could thus seem like a completely ideal choice, if their price were not somewhat astronomical. Included 8 crowns the exclusive technology for the reduction of ambient noise is mainly projected, which is included in the Bose QuietComfort 20 for the first time in classic plug-in headphones. However, if you enjoy high-quality music that you don't want to be disturbed by, and at the same time you don't want to wear big headphones on your head, then you can consider investing more than 8 in earphones.
