Apple quietly increased the maximum limit for app downloads using mobile data this week. The change applies not only to content from the App Store, but also to video-podcasts, movies, series and other content from the iTunes Store.

Already with the arrival of iOS 11, the company increased the limit for downloading large files through mobile data in its services, specifically by 50 percent - from the original 100 MB, the maximum limit moved to 150 MB. Now the limit increases to 200 MB. The change should affect everyone who has the current version of the mobile operating system, i.e. iOS 12.3 and later.

By increasing the limit, Apple responds to the gradual improvement of mobile Internet services. If you subscribe to a plan with a large enough data package, the change can sometimes come in handy, especially if you happen to come across an app/update and you're not in range of the Wi-Fi network you need.

If, on the other hand, you save data, we recommend checking the settings for automatic download of updates via mobile data. If you happen to have it enabled, any update under 200MB will be downloaded from your mobile data. You will check in Settings -> iTunes and the App Store, where you need to have a disabled item Use Mobile data.

In general, however, the mentioned limit is considered completely meaningless. Even users who have an unlimited data package, which is common especially in foreign markets, cannot download the application and other content larger than 200 MB via mobile data. Apple's restriction is often criticized, with the suggestion that the company should have implemented only a warning with the option to continue downloading into the system. An option in the settings where the user could increase or deactivate the limit would also be welcome.
