In recent years, Apple users have complained that the Apple Watch does not bring any innovations that would force them to switch to the current model. In theory, this would not necessarily be the case if the giant from Cupertino bet on one property, which it has even dealt with in the past. Developer and collector Giulio Zompetti on his Twitter namely, he shared a photo of the Apple Watch Series 3 prototype, which shows the watch with two unusual ports surrounding a hidden diagnostic port.

An earlier Apple Watch concept:

These could work like the Smart Connector from the iPad, thanks to which they would be used to connect smart straps. Apple had to play with this idea for a long time, which is also evidenced by a number of various patents that are devoted to the smart straps just mentioned. Some of them talk about biometric authentication, automatic tightening or an LED indicator, while others describe a modular approach to the Apple Watch. In that case, it would be enough to connect a smart strap, which could function as an additional battery, display, camera, pressure gauge and more.

But let's go back to the hidden diagnostic port. It was previously speculated whether it would not be possible to connect smart straps through it. Since the connector is based on Lightning, it could theoretically support additional accessories. Some manufacturers were even able to create a strap with an external battery that constantly recharged the Apple Watch and thus extended its life. This piece was then connected via a diagnostic port. Unfortunately, Apple intervened in this case and due to software changes, the product did not even reach the market, as it could not be used.
