Apple Watch is already the number one on the wearable electronics market, so it is not easy to estimate where its further development will go. Apple's newly published patents can give us a hint, from which it is partly possible to read the future, but often a cloud of uncertainty hangs over them. This is exactly the case with an interesting idea according to which Apple watches could protect their users from sunburn in the future.

Additional device for the watch

The patent shows an additional device that could be attached to the watch, the main task of which would be to protect the user from sunburn. In recent years, the Apple company has been trying to enter the healthcare technology market, which can be seen at almost every conference where the Apple Watch is discussed. For example, according to Apple, the watch itself should already be able to detect heart disease, and there has long been talk of an additional blood glucose meter that would make life much easier for diabetics.

Warning and analysis of the cream

It is clear from the patent and its description that it would be a device that would be able to measure the intensity of the incident UV radiation and possibly warn the user that it is necessary to apply sunscreen, to avoid skin irritation. However, his function would not end there. The device should also be able to measure how thick a layer of cream you have applied, how waterproof the cream is and probably also how effective it is in combination with your skin in protecting against sunlight. This would be achieved using its own source of UV radiation and a sensor of ultraviolet and infrared radiation. The device would send radiation toward the skin and use a sensor to measure how much bounced back. By comparing the two values, it would then be able to find out how well the cream protects your body and, based on these findings, give you recommendations - for example, to apply more or tell you which cream is best for you.

Ambiguities in the patent

The patent further states that the device could be able to display weak or completely unprotected areas throughout the body and even create graphics for the user with marked areas. How this would be achieved is not clear.

Whether we will ever see a similar device is not clear. It is possible that the Apple company plans to build the technology directly into the watch, but it is also possible that we will not see such a device for a long time. However, the essential information is that Apple continues to create technologies that fight for better health and could have a significant impact on a global scale in the future.
