Apple places a lot of emphasis on its products to ensure that they are made to the highest possible quality and that users have the best possible experiences from using them. These usually come from three different aspects. One of them is the technical design and production quality, which is usually perfect. Then we have software debugging, which is usually also at a very good level, and last but not least, there is also the display, which is sometimes the most important, because it is through the display that the user manipulates his device. These are the displays of last year's novelties, for which Apple won several prestigious awards.

Every year, the Society for Information Display announces the winners of the so-called Display Industry Awards, in which it honors the manufacturer with the most innovative, high-quality processed and implemented display in the field of consumer electronics. This event usually features the best displays across various industries that have hit the market over the past year. This year, Apple left a strong mark on this presentation, as it took home two prizes.

The main Display of the Year category honors the product that brought about the most fundamental technological changes and/or highly unusual functions and capabilities. This year, two products received the main prize, and one of them was the iPad Pro, which deserved the prize primarily due to the presence of the so-called ProMotion technology, which enables variable refresh rate settings in the range of 24 to 120 Hz – it is the first commercially available display (in this type of device) that offers a similar function. The commission also highlighted the fineness of the display itself (264 ppi) and the overall complexity of the entire display system.

The second award went to Apple for the iPhone X, this time in the Display Application of the Year category. Here, awards are given for an innovative approach to the application of display technologies, while display technology itself may not be hot news. The iPhone X won this award thanks to the fulfillment of the vision of a frameless phone, where the display fills almost the entire surface of the front of the phone. This implementation required many additional technical solutions, which the commission appreciates. From a technical point of view, it is also a very good panel, which has more advanced functions such as HDR 10, support for Dolby Vision, True Tone, etc. You can find a complete list of awardees and other information in official press release.
