The Apple Watch is supposed to go on sale in the first months of 2015, but that doesn't mean that developers shouldn't be ready for it. That's why Apple today released the beta version of iOS 8.2 and with it also released WatchKit, a set of tools needed to develop apps for the Watch. Xcode 6.2 ends all of today's developer offerings.

V section on the WatchKit developer pages, in addition to summarizing features like Glances or interactive notifications, there is a 28-minute video explaining how to get started with Watch app development and Watch development in general. There is also a link to the Human Interface Guidelines for Watch section, i.e. a summary of recommended rules for how applications should look and how they should be controlled.

As has been known since the introduction of the Watch, the Apple Watch will be available in two sizes. The smaller variant will have dimensions of 32,9 x 38 mm, the larger variant will have dimensions of 36,2 x 42 mm. The display resolution couldn't be known until WatchKit was released, and as it turns out, that too will be dual - 272 x 340 pixels for the smaller variant, 312 x 390 pixels for the larger variant.

We are preparing detailed information about WatchKit.
