There are more and more applications in the App Store for which users pay in the form of a regular subscription. The subscription is renewed automatically, but sometimes it can happen that the payment does not go through for any reason. Apple will now offer users who experience this experience the opportunity to temporarily use the app's paid content for free until the payment issues are successfully resolved. This period will be six days for weekly subscriptions, and sixteen days for longer subscriptions.

App developers will not lose their earnings as a result of these deadlines, according to Apple. It is up to the developers themselves to decide whether to introduce a free period in case of problems with outgoing payment for the monthly subscription for their applications. They can adjust the relevant settings in App Store Connect.

“The Billing Grace Period allows you to allow subscribers whose auto-renewable subscriptions experience payment issues access to paid app content while Apple attempts to collect payment. If Apple is able to renew the subscription during the grace period, there will be no interruption of the subscriber's paid service days, nor any interruption of your revenue." writes Apple in its message to application developers.

For a long time, Apple has been trying to get developers to gradually change the method of payment for their applications from a one-time format to a regular subscription system. When setting up a subscription, developers can offer users certain benefits, such as a free trial period or discounted prices when choosing a longer period.
