A favorable judgment for Apple was issued by the General Court of the European Court of Justice. Here, the company objected to the recognition and issuance of a trademark to Xiaomi, which wanted to sell its Mi Pad tablet in the European Union. However, the European court ruled it out at Apple's instigation, and Xiaomi will thus have to come up with a new name to use for its tablet on the old continent. According to the court, the name Mi Pad would be confusing for customers and would lead to consumer deception.

The only difference between the two names is the presence of the letter "M" at the beginning of the product name. This fact, together with the fact that both devices are very similar, would only serve to deceive the end customer. For this reason, according to the European court, the Mi Pad trademark will not be recognized. The final decision came less than three years after Xiaomi applied for the trademark to the European Intellectual Property Office.

See what the Xiaomi Mi Pad tablet looks like. Decide for yourself about its similarity to the iPad:

According to this authority, English-speaking customers would accept the Mi prefix in the name of the tablet as the English word My, which would subsequently make the tablet My Pad, which phonetically is almost identical to the classic iPad. Xiaomi may appeal this verdict. The company has been notorious in recent years for copying both the design and nomenclature of Apple's products too closely (see the Xiaomi Mi Pad in the gallery above). The company started entering the European market in recent months and has very ambitious plans.
