Apple is a newcomer in the field of streaming video services, anyway after Netflix, Amazon or Google, the Cupertino company also decided to reduce the quality of streaming content following a request from the EU. And specifically with the TV+ service.

The restrictions were first announced by Google with YouTube and Netflix, and not long after Amazon joined with its Prime service. Disney, which is launching the Disney+ service in some European countries these days and weeks, has also promised to limit the quality from the beginning and even postpone the launch in France at the request of the government.

Apple TV+ normally offered content in 4K resolution with HDR until today. However, many users began to report that Apple significantly reduced the bitrate and resolution, resulting in a 540p quality video. The reduced quality can be seen mainly on larger televisions.

Unfortunately, exact numbers are not available as Apple has not commented on the quality reduction or issued a press statement. It is also unclear at this time how long the quality will be reduced for. But if we look at competing services, the reduction was mostly announced for one month. Of course, this time can change. It will depend on when the coronavirus pandemic can be brought at least partially under control.
