Apple announced that it plans to bring 1200 employees to its workplaces in San Diego over the next three years. Most likely, this is a step that should lead to future production of own modems. San Diego is also home to Qualcomm, which supplied modems to Apple, and with which the Cupertino company is currently being sued. Apple has shown interest in reducing its reliance on third-party suppliers in the past.

By the end of this year, 170 employees should relocate to San Diego. In his recent tweet CNBC's Alex Presha reported that this is double the number of jobs currently operating in San Diego. Gradually, a new Apple campus should also be built here.

Report to your Twitter also confirmed by the mayor of San Diego, Kevin Faulconer, who met with Apple representatives here and said that Apple deserves a 20% increase in jobs with this move. About San Diego on social network Apple CEO Tim Cook also mentioned.

Reuters reported last month that Apple is taking numerous steps to move component manufacturing away from supply chains and into in-house production. Apple recently switched from Qualcomm modems to Intel products.

The members of the future team in San Diego will be software and hardware engineers with a variety of specializations, the newly planned building will include offices, a laboratory and spaces intended for research. Apple's plans to produce its own components are also evidenced by the listing of dozens of new job positions related to the design of modems and processors.
