The Cupertino giant is somewhat dependent on its suppliers. As you may already know, Apple as such is not engaged in the production of individual components and small parts, from which the products themselves are subsequently composed, but instead buys them from its suppliers. In this respect, he is therefore dependent on them to a certain extent. If they do not deliver the necessary components, then Apple has a problem - for example, it does not manage to ensure production in time, which can subsequently cause delayed arrival or total unavailability of the given goods.

For this reason, Apple tries to have several suppliers available for one specific field. If problems arise in cooperation with one, the other can help. Even so, it is not a completely ideal solution. The Cupertino giant has therefore decided to become significantly more independent in recent years. It has replaced Intel processors with its own Apple Silicon chipsets and, according to available reports, is simultaneously working on a mobile 5G modem. But now it's about to take a much bigger bite - Apple is reportedly planning its own displays for iPhones and Apple Watch.

Custom displays and independence

According to the latest information from the respected Bloomberg agency, Apple plans to switch to its own displays, which will then be used in devices such as the iPhone and Apple Watch. Specifically, it should replace its current suppliers, namely Samsung and LG. This is great news for Apple. By switching to its own component, it will ensure independence from these two suppliers, thanks to which it could theoretically be able to save or reduce total costs.

At first glance, the news appears to be positive. If Apple really comes up with its own displays for iPhones and Apple Watch, then it will no longer have to rely on its partners, i.e. suppliers. To make matters worse, there is also speculation that the Cupertino giant even has a penchant for state-of-the-art MicroLED displays. He should put it in the top Apple Watch Ultra. As for other devices, you can count on a regular OLED panel.

A huge challenge for Apple

But now the question is whether we will actually see this change, or whether Apple will succeed in bringing it to a successful conclusion. Developing your own hardware is not the easiest thing to do. Even Apple knows about this, having worked for many years on its own chipsets, which then replaced the current processors from Intel in 2020. At the same time, it is extremely necessary to take into account one relatively important fact. Suppliers such as Samsung and LG, which sell displays to Apple, have extremely extensive experience in their development and production. It is the sale of these components that plays a rather key role for them.

For this reason, it is advisable to expect that not everything will go exactly according to plan. Apple, on the other hand, is inexperienced in this direction, and it is therefore a question of how it can cope with this task. The final question is also when we will see the first models of Apple phones and watches that will be equipped with their own displays. The information so far mentions the year 2024, or even 2025. So, if some complications do not occur, then it can be expected that the arrival of our own displays is practically around the corner.
