Apple is constantly criticized not only by apple fans for the large upper cutout of the iPhone, for which there is simply no place in 2021. This design was first introduced to the world in 2017 with the iPhone X, and we haven't seen a single change since then. At the same time, the cut-out is larger compared to the competition for a simple reason – it hides the TrueDepth camera and the entire Face ID biometric authentication system and therefore provides 3D facial scanning. According to the latest information of the portal DigiTimes but maybe flashes to better times.

Check out the cool concept iPhone 13 Pro:

Allegedly, work should be done on a significantly smaller sensor chip for Face ID. In addition, this change should already be reflected in this year's iPhone 13 and 13 Pro, and it is still expected that it will be the same in the case of the next generation of iPad Pro. Specifically, we are talking about the so-called VCSEL chip. Its reduction makes fundamental sense for Apple, namely the economic one. Thanks to the downsizing, production costs would be reduced, as the supplier could produce more pieces at once. In addition, changing the VCSEL chip would allow Apple to integrate new functions into the entire system. However, DigiTimes did not specify how the Cupertino giant could use this move.

In any case, there has been talk for a long time about what apple growers have been calling for for a long time - the reduction of the upper cutout. One previously mentioned theory was that Apple would achieve this by shrinking the Face ID system, which this latest speculation points directly to. Several leakers and the aforementioned DigiTimes portal have already mentioned the smaller notch. In any case, no one has yet confirmed whether these two potential changes are related.
