It's been roughly three years since Apple introduced its charging case to the world for the iPhone 6, followed by the 6s and 7. All variants had an almost identical (and somewhat controversial) design, led by an integrated battery on the back that gave the case its characteristic shape. Now it looks like Apple is working on a similar cover for this year's new iPhone XS and iPhone XR.

Clues that Apple is working on something like this appeared in the watchOS 5.1.2 operating system released yesterday. Until now, there was a special icon in it to show the iPhone with the original battery case, thus showing the phone with a horizontal dual camera and the "chin" that the old Battery case has. However, the new icon matches the design of the new iPhones and also hints that we will see a redesigned charging case.

If we take a closer look at the new icon, we can see that the chin from the previous model is gone. The overall bezels of the case look a bit smaller, but the big question is how thick the case will be on the back, where the integrated battery will be. It could see a significant increase, given that even the new iPhones are larger. The original battery in the original packaging had a capacity of 1 mAh, this time we could expect to exceed the 877 mAh mark.

The new iPhones already have a relatively decent endurance (especially the XR model), if they are then combined with a new charging case, even more demanding users could get two to three days, which many will definitely appreciate. Would you be interested in the new Smart Battery Case, or are you satisfied with the current innovations?
