Expected and necessary changes are coming to the iMac series today. The smaller 21,5-inch model gets a 4K display and improved internals, while the 27-inch iMac got a 5K display in all its variants and the latest processors from Intel.

The biggest innovation of the smaller iMac is undoubtedly the 4K display, which is a major improvement over the previous 1080p displays. In addition, the 21,5-inch will not only offer sharper and richer colors thanks to finer resolution, but also thanks to new technology that can display up to 25 percent more colors, especially red, green and yellow. This technology is also new in the 27-inch 5K iMac.

In addition to the display, the 21,5-inch iMac also received improvements to the internals, which have not changed in over two years. Apple deploys Intel's Broadwell processors, which start at 1,6GHz for the quad-core i5 and can go up to 3,1GHz for the quad-core i5.

Broadwells are not the latest generation of chips from Intel, but on the other hand, they are not too old either. Skylake is just beginning to be deployed and Intel does not yet have the variants that Apple needs for its smaller iMac.

With the new processors, the most powerful iMac builds get Iris Pro graphics, and the RAM has also been improved. From the current 8GB 1600MHz LPDDR3 to 8GB 1867GHz LPDDR3 with the option of increasing to 16GB. The new variants also offer Thunderbolt 2 and the option of larger storage.

Outwardly, the 21,5-inch remains the same as before, but the price is higher. However, similar to last year with the larger iMac, Apple has bet on the strategy of only adding 4K to the highest model of the 21,5-inch iMac, which starts at 46 crowns. Weaker iMacs with a 990p display can be purchased from 1080 crowns.

The finer 5K display for the 27-inch iMac is now expanding to a full line of larger computers after a year. The cheapest iMac with a 5K display can now be purchased for 57 crowns. Importantly, Apple has already deployed new Skylake processors in the larger iMacs, the configuration of which starts at a 990GHz quad-core i3,2 and can go up to a 5GHz quad-core i4,0. Graphics are AMD Radeon R7 ranging from the M9 with 380GB of RAM to the M2X with 395GB of RAM. The operating memory can be increased up to 4 GB, and even the 32-inch iMac does not lack Thunderbolt 27.

Along with all new iMacs, Apple is also shipping brand new accessories. Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse 2, or Magic Trackpad 2. All three products have undergone minor or major design changes, the trackpad offers Force Touch and charging is now done via Lightning. You can find more about the new accessories here.

Apple at the same time on the occasion of the presentation of the new iMacs created a special page, showing how the iMac has changed over the years. From 1998 until now. For example, it has 14 million more pixels and is, of course, many times more powerful.
