In recent days, interesting information has been spreading among Apple fans about the development of a 20-inch MacBook and iPad hybrid, which should even have a flexible display. However, a similar device will not be completely unique. We already have a number of hybrids at our disposal now, and it is therefore a question of how Apple will deal with it, or whether it will be able to surpass its competition. We can include several Lenovo or Microsoft devices in a similar category of hybrids.

The popularity of hybrid devices

Although at first glance hybrid devices look like the best we could ever want, their popularity is not that high. They can significantly simplify work, as they can be used as a tablet with a touch screen at one point, but can be switched to laptop mode at once. As already mentioned above, currently the most heard about are hybrid devices from companies such as Lenovo or Microsoft, which is celebrating a fairly decent success with its Surface line. Even so, ordinary laptops or tablets lead the way and the majority of users choose them over the mentioned hybrids.

This raises the question of whether Apple is making the right move to venture into these uncertain waters. In this direction, however, it is necessary to realize one fundamental thing. Many Apple fans are calling for a full-fledged iPad (Pro), which could be used to completely replace, for example, a MacBook. This is currently not possible due to the limitations of the iPadOS operating system. So we can say with certainty that there would definitely be interest in an apple hybrid. At the same time, flexible display technology plays an extremely important role in this. According to the patents registered by Apple so far, it is clear that the Cupertino giant has at least been toying with a similar idea for some time. Processing and reliability may thus play a key role. Apple will not be able to afford to make the slightest mistake in this regard, otherwise Apple users will probably not accept the news very warmly. The situation is similar to that of flexible smartphones. They are already available today in reliable and perfect condition, but still not many people are willing to buy them.

Will Apple deploy an astronomical price?

If Apple were to really complete the development of a hybrid between the iPad and the MacBook, huge question marks will hang over the question of price. A similar device will certainly not fall into the category of entry-level models, according to which it can be assumed in advance that the price will not be so friendly. Of course, we are still quite far from the arrival of the product, and it is currently not even certain whether we will see anything similar at all. But it is already clear that the hybrid would gain enormous attention and quite possibly change the way we look at current technologies. However, according to the information so far, the performance will take place as soon as possible in 2026, possibly until 2027.
