The presentation of the iPhone 7 is approaching, and information about what the new generation will look like is coming to the surface. Fans of the current models will probably be satisfied - no significant design innovation is expected for the upcoming generation of Apple smartphones.

According to the information of the diary The Wall Street Journal, citing unnamed sources, the upcoming generation of iPhones will be identical in design to the current 6S and 6S Plus models.

The biggest change, which would probably disturb the previous appearance, is supposed to concern the 3,5 mm jack. According to the WSJ, Apple will actually remove it and only the Lightning connector will be used to connect headphones.

Getting rid of the 3,5mm jack could bring both increased water resistance and an even thinner phone body by another millimeter, which was reported by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from KGI Securities.

If the WSJ's prediction comes true, it will mean that Apple will abandon its current two-year cycle, during which it always introduces a brand new form of its iPhone the first year, only to improve it mainly from the inside the following year. This year, however, he may add a third year with the same design, as he is said to have big changes planned for 2017.

According to unnamed sources, Apple has such technologies up its sleeve, the final implementation of which in new devices will take some time and will not "fit" in the mentioned period. After all, the company's CEO Tim Cook also commented on new technological innovations, saying in an interview with CNBC that "they plan to introduce users to things they don't even know they really need."

Apparently, more significant news should appear only next year, when there is speculation about all-glass iPhones with an OLED display or a built-in Touch ID touch sensor.
