We know the new iPhone - it's called the iPhone 4S and it's very similar to the previous version. At least as far as the outside is concerned. These are the most important insights from today's "Let's talk iPhone" keynote, which was accompanied by huge expectations all week. In the end, it will not be surprising if there is disappointment in the user ranks...

Everyone believed that Tim Cook, the new CEO of Apple, together with his colleagues, would again show the world something new, revolutionary in its own way. But in the end, nothing like that happened during the hundred-minute lecture in the Town Hall. At the same time, it was the same room where, for example, the very first iPod was presented.

Apple usually revels in various numbers, comparisons and charts, and today was no different. Tim Cook and others provided us with relatively boring data for a good three quarters of an hour. Nevertheless, let's recap their words.

Brick-and-mortar stores were the first to arrive. Apple has built a lot of them in recent months, and they also show the great scope of the Californian company. The new Apple Stories in Hong Kong and Shanghai were mentioned as evidence. The latter was visited by an incredible 100 visitors during the first weekend alone. In such Los Angeles, they waited a month for the same number. There are currently 11 brick-and-mortar stores with the bitten apple logo in 357 countries. And many more to come…

Then Tim Cook took the OS X Lion operating system to task. He reported that six million copies had already been downloaded and that Lion had gained 10 percent of the market in just two weeks. For comparison, he mentioned Windows 7, which took twenty weeks to do the same thing. Not to mention MacBook Airs, which are the best-selling laptops in the US, as well as iMacs in their class. Apple currently occupies 23 percent of the computer market in the United States.

All Apple segments were mentioned, so iPods were also mentioned. It remains the number one music player, covering 78 percent of the market. In total, over 300 million iPods were sold. And another comparison – it took Sony a good 30 years to sell 220 Walkmans.

The iPhone was again talked about as the phone with which customers are most satisfied. There was also an interesting figure that the iPhone has 5 percent of the entire mobile market, which of course also includes dumb phones, which are still a much larger part than smartphones.

With the iPad, its privileged position in the field of tablets was repeated. Although the competition is constantly trying to come up with a capable rival, three quarters of all tablets sold are iPads.

iOS 5 - we will see on October 12

After Tim Cook's not very lively numbers, Scot Forstall, who is in charge of the iOS division, ran onto the stage. However, he also started with "mathematics". However, let's skip this, since these were known numbers, and focus on the first news - the Cards application. This will make it possible to create all kinds of greeting cards, which will be printed by Apple itself and then sent out - in the US for $2,99 (about 56 crowns), to abroad for $4,99 (about 94 crowns). It will be possible to send congratulations to the Czech Republic as well.

Those who were waiting for more news were soon disappointed, at least for a moment. Forstall began to recap what's new in iOS 5. Out of more than 200 new features, he selected the 10 most essential ones - a new notification system, iMessage, Reminders, Twitter integration, Newsstand, an improved camera, improved GameCenter and Safari, news in Mail and the possibility of wireless update.

We already knew all this, the important news was that iOS 5 will be released on October 12.

iCloud - the only new thing

Eddy Cue then took the floor in front of the audience and began to recap how the new iCloud service works. Again, the most important message was availability, too iCloud will launch on October 12. Just to quickly reiterate that iCloud will make it easy to share music, photos, contacts, calendars, documents and more between devices.

iCloud it will be free for iOS 5 and OS X Lion users, with everyone getting 5GB of storage to start with. Anyone who wants can buy more.

However, there is one new thing that we didn't know about until now. Function Find My Friends will allow you to share your location with your friends. So you can see all friends nearby on the map. For everything to work, friends must be authorized by each other. At the end, the iTunes Match service was also mentioned, which will be available for $24,99 a year, for now only for Americans, at the end of October.

Cheaper iPods do not abound with novelties

When Phill Schiller appeared in front of the screen, it was clear that he was going to talk about iPods. He started with the iPod nano, for which they are the most important innovation new clock skins. Since the iPod nano is used as a classic watch, Apple saw fit to offer users other types of watches to wear on their wrists. There is also a Mickey Mouse skin. As for the price, the new nano is the cheapest ever – they charge $16 for the 149GB variant in Cupertino, $8 for the 129GB.

Similarly, the iPod touch, the most popular gaming device, received "fundamental" news. It will be available again white version. The pricing policy is as follows: 8 GB for $199, 32 GB for $299, 64 GB for $399.

All new iPod nano and touch variants they will be on sale from October 12.

iPhone 4S - the phone you've been waiting 16 months for

A lot was expected of Phil Schiller at that moment. The Apple official did not delay too long and immediately laid out the cards on the table - introduced the half-old, half-new iPhone 4S. That's exactly how I would characterize the latest Apple phone. The exterior of the iPhone 4S is identical to its predecessor, only the inside differs significantly.

The new iPhone 4S, like the iPad 2, has a new A5 chip, thanks to which it should be up to twice as fast as the iPhone 4. It will then be up to seven times faster in graphics. Apple then immediately demonstrated these improvements on the upcoming Infinity Blade II game.

iPhone 4S will have better battery life. It can handle 8 hours of talk time via 3G, 6 hours of surfing (9 via WiFi), 10 hours of video playback and 40 hours of music playback.

Newly, the iPhone 4S will intelligently switch between two antennas to receive and send the signal, which will ensure up to two times faster downloads on 3G networks (speed up to 14,4 Mb/s compared to 7,2 Mb/s of the iPhone 4).

Also, two different versions of the phone will no longer be sold, the iPhone 4S will support both GSM and CDMA networks.

It will definitely be the pride of the new apple phone camera, which will have 8 megapixels and a resolution of 3262 x 2448. The CSOS sensor with back lighting provides 73% more light, and five new lenses provide 30% more sharpness. The camera will now be able to detect faces and automatically balance the white color. It will also be faster – it will take the first photo in 1,1 seconds, the next in 0,5 seconds. It has no competition on the market in this regard. He will record video in 1080p, there is an image stabilizer and noise reduction.

The iPhone 4S supports AirPlay mirroring just like the iPad 2.

It also finally became clear why Apple bought Siri some time ago. Her work now appears in new and more sophisticated voice control. Using the assistant, named Siri, it will be possible to give commands to your phone by voice. You can ask what the weather is like, what the current state of the stock market is. You can also use your voice to set an alarm clock, add appointments to the calendar, send a message and, last but not least, also dictate text, which will be directly transcribed into text.

There is only one catch for us – for now, Siri will be in beta and only in three languages: English, French and German. We can only hope that in time we will see Czech. However, Siri will be exclusive to the iPhone 4S.

iPhone 4S will be available again in white and black version. With a two-year carrier subscription, you get the 16GB version for $199, the 32GB version for $299, and the 64GB version for $399. Older versions will also remain in the offer, the price of the 4 gig iPhone 99 will drop to $3, the equally "big" iPhone XNUMXGS will even be free, of course with a subscription.

Apple is accepting pre-orders for the iPhone 4S starting Friday, October 7. The iPhone 4S will be on sale from October 14. In 22 countries, including the Czech Republic, then from 28th of October. By the end of the year, Apple wants to start selling it in another 70 countries, with a total of more than 100 operators. This is the fastest iPhone release ever.
