In 2020, Apple presented us with the iPhone 12 series, which surprised everyone with its new design. At the same time, the giant presented a series consisting of four phones for the first time, thanks to which it can cover a larger number of potential buyers. Specifically, it was the iPhone 12 mini, 12, 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max. The company then continued this trend with the iPhone 13. Already with the "twelves", however, news began to spread that the mini model was a sales flop and there was simply no interest in it. The question was therefore whether there would be a successor at all.

As mentioned above, the iPhone 13 mini followed. Since then, however, speculation and leaks speak clearly. In short, we will not see the upcoming smaller iPhone, and instead Apple will come up with a suitable replacement. By all accounts, it should be the iPhone 14 Max – that is, the basic model, but in a slightly larger design, in which Apple was partly inspired by its best model Pro Max. But an interesting question arises. Is Apple doing the right thing, or should it stick to its little one?

Is Apple doing the right thing with the Max?

Modern technology has moved forward significantly in recent years. In a way, the preferences regarding the size of the display have also changed, for which the mini model paid in the last two years. In short, the screens kept getting bigger and people got used to a diagonal of around 6″, for which Apple unfortunately paid a little extra. Of course, we will still find a number of users who will continue to prefer devices of compact dimensions and will not tolerate their mini model in any way, but it is also necessary to mention that in this case it is a minority whose purchasing power cannot reverse Apple's current progress. In short, the numbers speak clearly. Although Apple does not report on the official sales of individual models, analytical companies simply agree in this regard and always come up with a single answer - the iPhone 12/13 mini is selling worse than expected.

It is logically necessary to react to something like this. Apple is a commercial company like any other and therefore aims to maximize its profit. Here we also follow up on the mentioned fact that today people simply prefer phones with larger screens, which is clearly visible when looking at today's smartphone market. It's hard to find a flagship phone in the dimensions of an iPhone mini. For this reason, the Cupertino giant's steps seem understandable. In addition, competitor Samsung has been betting on similar tactics for a long time. Although its flagship line consists of a trio of phones, we can find a certain similarity in it. While the S22 and S22+ models are very similar and only differ in size, the true high-end (flagship) model is the S22 Ultra. In a way, Samsung also offers a basic model in a larger body.

Apple lovers are already welcoming the Max model

Without a doubt, the biggest confirmation of Apple's upcoming moves is the reaction from users themselves. Apple lovers generally agree on one thing on the discussion forums. The mini model simply does not fit into today's offer, while the Max model should have been there a long time ago. However, opinions on forums must be approached with caution, as one group of supporters can easily overpower another. In any case, the positive feedback on the iPhone Max is repeated many times.

On the other hand, there is still some hope for the mini model. A possible solution could be if Apple treated this phone the same way as the iPhone SE, updating them every few years. Thanks to this, this piece would not be a direct part of the new generations and, in theory, the Cupertino giant would not have to spend such costs on it. But whether we will see something like that is, of course, unclear now.
