Recently, leaks and speculations regarding the deployment of an OLED display on the iPad Pro are starting to appear more and more often. Apparently, Apple is playing with several ideas on how it could improve the top model from the Apple tablet range. However, several respected sources agree on one thing - the Cupertino giant really intends to switch from the current LCD panel using Mini-LED backlight to so-called OLED displays, which are characterized by better display quality, great contrast, true black rendering and lower energy consumption.

However, as is known, OLED panels are significantly more expensive, which is also one of the main reasons why they are not used so much in larger devices. This is precisely why laptop displays or monitors have "standard" screens, while OLED is primarily the prerogative of smaller devices in the form of mobile phones or smart watches. Of course, if we ignore modern TVs. After all, this is followed by the latest information, according to which the iPad Pro will become significantly more expensive in 2024, when it will also come in combination with a new OLED display. However, the giant can get badly burned on that.

An even better iPad, or a huge mistake?

According to the portal The Elec, which refers to sources from the supply chain, prices are set to increase quite substantially. In the case of the 11″ model by up to 80%, according to which the iPad should start at $1500 (CZK 33), while for the 500″ it will be a 12,9% increase to the starting amount of $60 (CZK 1800). Although it is still speculation and leaks, we still get an interesting insight into how the whole situation could look like. So this is literally an extreme price increase. In addition, it is necessary to take into account that these are most likely prices intended for the domestic market in the United States. In the Czech Republic and Europe, the prices will be even higher, due to the addition of imports, taxes and other costs.

Now a very important question arises. Will Apple buyers be willing to pay that much for the iPad Pro? Given its hardware equipment, there is nothing to be surprised about in the finals. The iPad Pro offers desktop chipsets from the Apple Silicon family, and in terms of performance it is equal to, for example, Apple laptops, which would be more or less matched by the price of the device itself, which is very close to the aforementioned MacBooks. But it is necessary to take into account a number of other factors. The listed prices are only for the device itself. Therefore, we still have to add the price for accessories in the form of Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil.

iPadOS as a critical bottleneck

In the current one, however, the more expensive iPad Pro has a critical obstacle – the iPadOS operating system itself. In this regard, we go back a few lines above. Although iPads have breathtaking performance and can compete with Apple computers in terms of hardware, in the end their performance is more or less useless because they cannot use it to the full. iPadOS is responsible for this, which does not help by not allowing users any practical multitasking system. The only options are to split the screen into two halves via Split View or use the Stage Manager function.

Will Apple fans be willing to pay the price of a new MacBook for an iPad Pro that can't even reach its full potential? It is precisely this question that even the apple growers themselves, who do not find the current speculation very friendly, are now puzzling over. It is quite clear in the eyes of users. As we wrote recently, the redesign of the iPadOS operating system is inevitable due to the use of Apple Silicon chipsets. Deploying a better display, or the subsequent price increase, is just another reason for the change.
