In this regular column, every day we look at the most interesting news that revolves around the California company Apple. We focus here exclusively on the main events and selected (interesting) speculations, leaving the various leaks aside. So if you are interested in current events and want to be informed about the apple world, definitely spend a few minutes on the following paragraphs.

iOS 13.5.1 reduces battery life

As all apple lovers are used to, we receive updates quite regularly, and from time to time some interesting news arrives on our apple products. Last week saw the release of iOS 13.5.1, which brings a fix in the security field and is recommended for all users. Of course, every incoming update brings with it a number of questions. How will the device perform in terms of performance and how will it affect battery life? As for the battery, the YouTube channel iAppleBytes looked at its durability, which tested the current version of the operating device on the iPhone SE (2016), 6S, 7, 8, XR, 11 and SE (2020). The test itself was conducted through Geekbench 4 and as the results show, the battery life decreased. For some models, it had a relatively negligible effect, and for others, it affected a little more. Of course, the changes directly depend on the models themselves. But the interesting thing is that such an iPhone 7, as the only one, even managed to improve itself in terms of endurance. You can see how the test itself was conducted and the exact results in the video below.

Apple is preparing a group selfie: People will connect virtually

So far, 2020 has brought a number of bad events, one of which is the global coronavirus pandemic. Because of it, governments around the world came up with exceptional measures, national borders were closed and people had to absolutely avoid any social interaction. At such a moment we could see the huge use of the Internet. Understandably, people all over the world have moved to the online world and communicate with friends or family through social networks, video calls and others. But did it occur to you that you couldn't take a selfie with a friend in case of social distancing? This is exactly the question they are probably asking at Apple as well. We have seen the publication of a new patent which analyzes this problem and tries to bring a solution.

Images published with the patent (Patently Apple):

This news was first reported by Patently Apple magazine, which deals directly with apple patents. Specifically, it should be a software solution that would allow people to create so-called group selfies without even being in the same country. According to published information, the function could work in such a way that one user would invite another to take a photo, both of them would create a selfie, and then they would be assembled into a joint image. At the same time, the selfie itself could use, for example, a classic photo or video. In addition, the user should be able to save his own (as yet uncomposed) selfie, which practically gives him two pictures.

Of course, Apple publishes individual patents literally like on a treadmill. So at the moment, it is not at all clear whether we will ever see this feature. So far, we have seen several different patents that never saw the light of day and were practically forgotten. How would you react to such a function? Would you welcome her? In addition, this is a great solution in the current situation, when people could "take a picture" together, even though they may be across the world from each other.

What would the acquisition of the DuckDuckGo search engine bring to Apple

Apple products use Google as the default search engine, which even pays Apple a lot of money for this reservation. However, very interesting news is currently spreading on the Internet. According to an analyst named Toni Sacconaghi, the Californian giant could be planning to acquire the rival search engine DuckDuckGo, which has enjoyed a steadily increasing popularity, especially in recent years. According to the analyst, this acquisition would cost Apple 1 billion dollars and would greatly help it in the competition with Google. It's no secret that Google is the world's most popular search engine, generating astronomical profits.

Google should reportedly pay the Cupertino company $10 billion a year to be the primary search engine for the iPhone and iPad. If the acquisition actually happened, this contract could either be increased by five billion, or Google could back out of it altogether. In this case, Apple would have the very DuckDuckGo at its disposal, thanks to which it would gain full control over possible monetization and privacy. It's definitely an interesting idea and might be worth pursuing. If Apple switched to DuckDuckGo, it would once again confirm its interest in user privacy. This competitive search engine does not (so far) store any information about the users themselves, does not chase them with advertisements and does not track them.
