Apple has its Apple Pencil, which it has introduced to us for two generations, and users can use it with its iPads. Samsung then has a series of S Pen styluses, with the problem that each of its models is designed for a different series of devices. In both cases, however, these are very useful devices, but you can also use one solution with a mobile phone.

Of course, we are talking about the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G, when with its support for the S Pen, the manufacturer wanted to at least apologize to its customers for canceling the Note series, which stood out with this stylus. Already in February, we should expect the successor of this flagship from the stable of Apple's biggest competitor. However, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G should contain the S Pen already in its body, just like it was with the Note series, and not just carry it in a customized case.

iPhone and Apple Pencil?

With the constant increase in iPhone displays, there has been speculation for a long time whether the iPhone Pro Max series will also support Apple's stylus, i.e. the Apple Pencil, in the future. But in that case, there are several problems. The first is of course the size. If we leave aside the S Pen designed for the Tab S7 tablet model, the one for the S21 Ultra is adapted to the dimensions of such a small device, i.e. a mobile phone. If the iPhone 14 Pro Max did bring support for the 2nd generation Apple Pencil, it would be very impractical to carry it together.

The 2nd generation Apple Pencil is also charged wirelessly on supported iPad tablets by simply "snapping" it to the edge of the device through the included magnets. If you were to buy it exclusively for a new iPhone, which would not have a similar function, you would not actually have a way to charge it. The situation would be different in the case of support for the first generation, which includes a Lightning connector, so you could charge it directly from the iPhone.

If we don't talk about the practicality of the idea itself, because everyone can look at the concept of using an iPhone with an Apple Pencil differently (after all, the Note series has already shown that it is really possible to control the phone with a stylus and it can be practical), it is very unlikely that Apple would he added support to existing generations rather than coming up with a new one. Of course, it would have to be smaller and more compact.

The idea doesn't have to be so unrealistic. A clear outcome of this would be in the case of the introduction of a folding iPhone solution. Of course, Samsung also offers its stylus for the Z Fold3, so Apple could actually bring the 3rd generation of its Pencil, which would be compatible with its "puzzle" and possibly the latest iPhone series. It could be called Apple Pencil mini, for example. Its total length would of course reflect the size of the device itself, so in the end it would not have to be as long, namely 166 mm, as measured by its 2nd generation. For comparison, the S Pen for the Galaxy S21 Ultra is 130,4 mm, the S Pen for the Z Fold 3 is 132,1 mm, and the one for the Galaxy Tab S7 tablets is 144,8 mm.

Features and pricing

Apple says the 2nd generation Apple Pencil works with precision down to the last pixel and the lowest latency on the market. Perfect for drawing, sketching, coloring, taking notes and even annotating PDFs. At the same time, it behaves as naturally as a regular pencil. It also recognizes double-taps, so you can switch between tools without putting down the Pencil, but only in supported apps.

But the S Pen on the Galaxy S21 Ultra offers the Air Command function, which allows you to take full advantage of what this stylus has to offer. Simply lift it above the screen and tap the button to access a menu of unique S Pen features including Samsung Notes and Live Messages. The smartest, of course, is the S Pen designed for Samsung tablets, which allows you to control it remotely using gestures. For example, Create photos, increase the volume or change slides in a presentation without touching the tablet. Just move your hand to that side or press a button.

There is also a significant difference in the prices of individual styluses. The 1st generation Apple Pencil will cost you 2 CZK, the 590nd generation for 2 CZK. In contrast, the S Pen for the Galaxy S3 Ultra costs 490 CZK, 21 CZK for the Z Fold890 and 3 CZK for the Tab S1 tablets.
