It's surprising how long a country as big as Germany had to wait to launch Apple Pay. But today, Apple users there finally got it and can start paying with an iPhone or Apple Watch in local stores. As of today, Apple Pay is officially available on the German market with support from several banking institutions and most stores.

The arrival of Apple's payment service in Germany was first officially announced by Tim Cook already in July. Early November then early launch confirmed banks there and even Apple itself on its website. But still with the note that it will happen "very soon". In the end, the Germans had to wait more than a month before all the preparations were completed and Apple Pay could finally be launched. During that time so did Germany she overtook Belgium and even Kazakhstan.

Right from the start, a relatively wide range of German banks support the apple payment service, including Comdirect, Deutsche Bank, HVB, Edenred, Fidor Bank and Hanseatic Bank. The list also includes purely mobile banks and payment services such as Bunq, VIMpay, N26, services o2 or the popular boon. The most widespread debit and credit card issuers such as Visa, Mastercard, Maestro or American Express are also supported.

Germans can use Apple Pay both in brick-and-mortar stores and in applications and e-shops, such as Booking, Adidas, Flixbus and many others. Users can also pay via Apple Pay on their Mac, where they confirm the payment using Touch ID or a password. In stores, it is then possible to make a payment via iPhone or Apple Watch basically anywhere that has the necessary payment terminal with support for contactless payments.

In the Czech Republic at the beginning of the year

It has been rumored for a long time that after Germany, the Czech Republic will be the next to support Apple Pay. Support for the domestic market was reportedly even delayed precisely because of the delayed launch in Germany. In our case, we would use payment services from Apple they should have waited at the beginning of next year, specifically at the turn of January and February. Currently, the banks have everything ready and are just waiting for the green light from Apple.
