There has been a lot of talk about Apple Pay in connection with the Czech market in recent months. Not to be, because everything indicated that the payment service from Apple will come to us soon. The original assumptions indicated a launch at the turn of January and February, later even February and March. However, the exact date was not mentioned. That is, until now. According to the latest information, Apple Pay should arrive in the Czech Republic in less than two weeks, specifically on Tuesday, February 19.
The server came up with the term first iDnes.cz, who obtained the information from his sources in the banking environment. The date of February 19 should really be final, since it was announced to the banking institutions by Apple itself. All banks that will offer Apple Pay in the first wave reportedly already have the necessary certificates to be able to offer the service to their customers right from the start.
Intensive testing by employees of domestic banks is also taking place these days. Some of them were even caught paying with an iPhone at a contactless terminal in a store. One of the videos was published by Tomáš Froněk on his Twitter with commentary "It looks like the bank is already testing ApplePay, there are people in Budějárna paying with iPhones with the legendarily ugly card design in Wallet. That end of February for the launch could be real. Three cheers :)"
Several banks should offer their clients payment by iPhone and Apple Watch right from the first day. In addition to Česká spořitelna, Komerční banka, Moneta Money Bank, AirBank and mBank are expected. In addition to those listed, the Czech startup Twisto should also offer the service. However, it is possible that not all banking institutions will support both payment card issuers, i.e. Visa and Mastercard, for Apple Pay. Banks such as Fio, Equa, Creditas and ČSOB plan to introduce support during the year.
?
Well, finally.
And what will it bring about the revolution? That it has been written about for several years, almost every week? Is that impractically waving a placard at the cash register? Well, who has it here? And the practical usability is almost zero.
Am I such a nerd that I quite often go to the store without my wallet?♀️ But I carry my cell phone with me because I have a purchase written on it. So Apple Pay is definitely practical for me?♀️
I totally agree, I have my mobile phone in a book-type case (I'm careful with it), I have a payment card + Shell card tucked in there (it can't be loaded into the mobile phone) and a reserve for fines in the side pocket. So I have no more work to do with it than I have to with ApplePay
It must be added that in addition to the general support of the banks, other details will also matter. It was said that banks may not allow both Visa and MC, but what will be more interesting will be how it will be with credit cards.
On the other hand, to those questions about practicality – the integration with the Apple Watch is quite tempting, that is interesting. Paying with a mobile phone is more up for discussion, it can actually be slower than "normal", I would see an advantage there rather for shuffling more cards, etc., but if you don't use this, then it's not such a miracle.
wow, the equa bank is great!
So admit it, who did you switch banks for? :D
