Apple hired Antonio Garcia Martinez, a former Facebook executive, to its App Store and Apple News Advertising team on Monday, only to fire him on Wednesday. There is a fair amount of controversy involved, as Garcia Martinez has had many sexist comments that the company will not tolerate. SOCIETY In a statement to 9to5Mac, Apple confirmed that Garcia Martinez is leaving the company, while also saying that it does not tolerate any kind of discrimination against its employees: “At Apple, we have always strived to create an inclusive and welcoming workplace where everyone is respected and accepted. Behavior that demeans or discriminates against people for who they are has no place here.”

The former Facebook executive was hired to work on the App Store and Apple News Advertising team, having previously led important advertising-related projects at Facebook. This is despite Apple touting how ad-free its products and services are. However, it is in the App Store and Apple News that they offer advertising blocks that he should have taken care of. However, the situation worsened when several Apple employees wrote a petition against the hiring of Garcia Martinez.

For example, such advertisements were to be handled by Martinez:

The latter is apparently known for his sexist and misogynistic behavior (misogyny generally refers to hatred, contempt, or prejudice against women). Indeed, in her book "Chaos Monkeys", in which she talks about her experience working in Silicon Valley, there are several comments that diminish the work of women in technology companies. And they're not exactly picky. The following text is freely translated from the magazine 9to5Mac, where you can read its full text, including the rather unflattering description of the woman, which we do not intend to publish here: “Most women in the Bay Area are weak and naïve, despite their claims of worldliness. They constantly flaunt their independence for their right to feminism, but the reality is that when the apocalypse comes, they'll be exactly the kind of useless cargo you'd trade for a box of shotgun shells or a can of diesel.”

There is no place for discrimination at Apple

Garcia Martinez worked at Facebook from 2011 to 2013 and since then has been more of an entrepreneur as he has launched several projects of his own. His statement on the case is not yet known. Even though Apple has already said goodbye to him, it's also not very clear why it didn't know about his position before even accepting it. Apple's position in this regard is uncompromising. The company is very committed to gender equality and against racial prejudice. Celebrates MDŽ, recalls black history, but also helps LGBTQ+ communities.
