The development of an AR/VR headset by Apple has been rumored for several years. According to current speculation, he should head for the so-called top-tier with a one-way ticket and they will offer the best technologies at the moment. For the time being, we can count on a first-class powerful chip, several high-quality displays, probably of the MicroLED and OLED type, several motion cameras and a number of other gadgets. On the other hand, modern technologies are not free. That is why there is often talk of a price tag of 3 dollars, i.e. less than 70 crowns without tax, which is quite a lot.

At the same time, the latest leaks talked about the fact that we are just a step away from the official presentation of this product. First, this year was mentioned, but now it looks more like 2023. Be that as it may, the arrival of a similar piece has been talked about for quite a few years. So when did the first mentions appear and how long has Apple been working on its headset? This is exactly what we are going to shed light on together now.

The AR/VR headset has been in the works for over 5 years

The first mentions of the possible arrival of a similar device began to appear as early as 2017. At that time, on the portal Bloomberg appeared the first ever report mentioning a separate headset that should come as early as 2020 and would hide in its guts a chip similar to the one in the Apple Watch Series 1. It should also be powered by a completely new operating system, possibly called rOS, the foundations of which will of course be laid on top of the iOS core. According to this, it can be clearly determined that Apple has been involved in the development itself for quite a number of years. It is therefore not surprising that all kinds of leakers became interested in the device practically from this moment and were looking for any more detailed information. But they weren't exactly successful twice. For now. Anyway, in the same year, a website came up with a similar mention Financial Times. According to him, Apple is working on the development of another revolutionary device, when they directly specified that it should be an AR (augmented reality) headset dependent on the iPhone with 3D cameras.

In the following year, Apple even started negotiating with suppliers who specialize in components for AR and VR devices. Among them was, for example, the company EMagin, which has been engaged in the production of OLED displays and similar components for headsets of a similar type for a long time. And that's when we were also able to hear more detailed information from leading analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who is seen as one of the most respected and accurate sources in the apple community. His statement at the time surprised and excited many Apple fans - the giant from Cupertino was supposed to start mass production between 2019 and 2020, according to which it can be clearly concluded that the presentation of the headset itself could come sometime during this period.

Apple View concept

However, nothing similar happened in the finals and we do not have any official information available so far. Anyway, Kuo informed about this, or rather mentioned that due to design changes and possible problems on the supply chain side, the whole project may be delayed. Apparently, however, the development of the AR/VR headset is in full swing, and its introduction could really be so-called just around the corner. Recently, various speculations and leaks have been spreading more and more often, and the device itself has become a so-called public secret. Many Apple users know about the development, although Apple has not officially confirmed or presented anything.

So when will we see it?

If we take into account the most recent leaks, then the official presentation should really take place this year or next year. On the other hand, we must take into account that these are mere speculations, which may not even be true. However, multiple sources agree on this time span and it seems like the most likely possibility.
