Yesterday afternoon, Apple implemented a new function in its maps – users in major world cities can now search for the nearest place where they can rent a bike for free. If you are in a supported area, the maps will now show you which rental office (or place for so-called bike sharing) is closest and some basic information about it.

This news is related to the recently concluded cooperation with Ito World, which deals with the issue of data in the field of transport. It was thanks to access to the huge databases of Ito World that Apple was able to implement information about where and which rental companies are located. The service is currently available in 175 cities across 36 states.

Apple Maps will show you the information when you search for "Bike Sharing" in it. If you are in an area covered by this new feature, you should see individual points on the map where you can borrow a bike for free, or use bike sharing services, i.e. take your bike and return it to another "parking station".

In the Czech Republic, Apple Maps supports the search for classic rental shops where you pay to rent a bike. However, bike sharing is a little different. It is a service that is completely free and works on the trust of its users. You simply rent a bike at the selected location, arrange what you need and return it at the next location. Free of charge, only at your own risk.
