Apple is dedicating this year to Macs with Apple Silicon. According to various speculations and reports from respected sources, it looks like we will see a series of new Apple computers this year that will take the whole Apple Silicon project a few steps further. But the fun is over. For now, we only have the so-called basic computers with the M1 chip available, while the professional ones only offer the 14″/16″ MacBook Pro (2021), which is powered by the M1 Pro or M1 Max chip. And this segment will grow significantly this year. What models will we expect and how will they differ?

If you are interested in the happenings around the Cupertino company, then in recent weeks you have certainly not missed mentions that we will soon see another high-end Mac. And theoretically not just one. At the same time, interesting information about the Apple Silicon chips themselves has been coming to the surface in recent days. Until now, there has been speculation as to whether all "profiMacs will get the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips, as well as the aforementioned MacBook Pro from last year. Although this laptop is extremely powerful, it will of course not beat the top configuration of a Mac Pro, for example. However, we could already hear from several sources that Apple is going to significantly strengthen its best piece – the M1 Max. Experts discovered that this chip was specially designed to be combined with other M1 Max models, creating the ultimate combination with double or triple the number of cores. Theoretically quite possible even with a quadruple. In that case, for example, the mentioned Mac Pro could offer a 40-core CPU and a 128-core GPU.

High time for proper machines

As we mentioned above, basic Macs, designed for the majority of users, are already here some Friday. The M1 chip itself has even been with us for almost a year and a half. Unfortunately, professionals don't have much to choose from yet and therefore have to guard their older professional models, or reach for the currently only option, which is the MacBook Pro (2021). However, this year's first keynote is ahead of us, during which the high-end Mac mini with M1 Pro or M1 Max chips will probably have a say. At the same time, speculation is spreading about the arrival of the iMac Pro. This ultimate all-in-one computer with a bitten apple logo could take design inspiration from the 24″ iMac and Pro Display XDR, while improving performance a bit. This particular model is the first candidate for the arrival of an even better configuration, thanks to which it could receive the mentioned combination of M1 Max chips.

The entire transition from processors from Intel to a proprietary solution in the form of Apple Silicon should then be completed by the Mac Pro this year. However, it is currently not entirely clear how Apple will start the transformation. There are two potential versions circulating among fans. In the first case, the giant would completely stop selling the simultaneously available generation with an Intel processor, while in the second case, it could sell the device in parallel. To make matters worse, there is also talk that the Mac Pro will be reduced in size by up to half thanks to the benefits of ARM chips, and in terms of performance it will offer a combination of two to four M1 Max chips.

They will improve even the basic models

Of course, Apple does not forget about its basic models either. Therefore, let's quickly summarize what Macs could still come during this year. Apparently, these pieces will receive an improved chip labeled M2, which, although its performance cannot be compared to, for example, the M1 Pro, but it will still improve a bit. This piece should come to the 13″ MacBook Pro, the basic Mac mini, the 24″ iMac and the redesigned MacBook Air later this year.
