Apple has acquired another artificial intelligence start-up under its wing. Perceptio is developing technologies that make it possible to run advanced artificial intelligence systems on smartphones without requiring too much user data.

Perceptia acquisition report brought Bloomberg, to which Apple confirmed the acquisition with the traditional blurb that it "buys small technology companies from time to time, but generally does not discuss its intentions or plans."

Behind Perceptia are Nicolas Pinto and Zak Stone, who are established specialists in the field of artificial intelligence and focus in particular on image recognition systems based on so-called deep learning (machine learning). Deep learning is an approach to artificial intelligence that allows computers to learn to recognize and classify sensory perceptions.

The key thing about Perceptia is that it doesn't need too much external data to run these systems, which is accurate in accordance with Apple policy. The Californian company tries to collect as little information as possible about its users and perform most of the calculations directly on the device, not on its servers. Perceptio thus represents another possibility for how the voice assistant Siri, for example, could be improved.

A few days ago, in addition, Apple also bought the start-up VocalIQ he could also improve Siri with it. VocalIQ, on the other hand, focuses on improving the human-computer conversation to make it as real as possible.
