Apple has released the long-awaited software update for HomePod, labeled 13.2. However, in addition to many features, it introduces a bug that can completely disable the HomePod.

Users on the 13.2 software update for HomePod was very much enjoyed. It brings expected functions such as Handoff, voice recognition of family members, calls and many others. Unfortunately, the final version of the system also contained a bug that will make the HomePod a non-functional device.

The information comes from various users, either from the MacRumors forums, the official support forums, or entire threads on the social network Reddit. All of them agree that the problem started soon after installing the new software version 13.2.

I have two HomePods that are experiencing the problem described above after updating to 13.2. Both HomePods became unresponsive after the update. I was hoping a reset would help, but now it just keeps spinning at the top and the install bubble doesn't show up on either HomePod. In addition, I am no longer able to reset them because the long press does not accept the speaker. It just spins endlessly. I'll wait a while to see what others are having before contacting Apple support.

Apple responded and pulled the 13.2 update for HomePod

Some had problems immediately after installing 13.2, some after trying to reset. Others are reporting identical problems when they installed the HomePod 13.2 update before the iOS 13.2 update itself.

I updated my HomePod via the app on my phone. And then I updated the phone itself at home. When the phone update finished, I didn't see the usual new features screen. Maybe nothing has changed in the 13.2 menu. I removed the HomePod from the Home app and tried a reset. Once I turned it back on it reset again after 8-10 seconds and still does.

Some have already contacted Apple support and are receiving replacement parts or repairs at the Apple Store. One Reddit user shared:

The update went through without any problems for me. But the voice recognition didn't work, so I removed the HomePod from the Home app. Then I tried a reset and that was it. I got a brick from him, literally. I was at support in the evening and they are sending me a box in which to send my HomePod for service.

Apple eventually responded and pulled the entire 13.2 update. Those who have the software working should avoid any attempt to reset the HomePod or remove it from the Home app. Others should call official Apple support.
