Advisory company Brand Finance annually publishes a ranking of global brands that are judged to be the most valuable and influential based on specific factors. In this year's edition of the ranking, the technology giant from Cupertino celebrated success, as well as one of the largest media and entertainment companies.

The most valuable brand according to the ranking Brand Finance Global 500 for 2016 became Apple with a value of $145,9 billion and improved by 14 percent compared to last year. Despite the uncertainty regarding further iPhone sales, which are likely to decline year-on-year for the first time in history, Apple has generated record sales and profits in recent quarters.

Although Google's main rival improved by 22,8 percent year-on-year, it was still not enough for Apple in the rankings. With a value of around 94 billion dollars, Google finished second. South Korea's Samsung (worth $83 billion), fourth Amazon ($70 billion) and fifth Microsoft ($67 billion) trailed behind it.

While ranked Brand Finance Global 500 Apple is ahead of Google as the most valuable brand, and on the stock market, Google, or the Alphabet holding, to which Google belongs, is catching up strongly. Most recently, even in after-hours trading thanks to good financial results via Apple, it got a became the most valuable company in the world.

However, Brand Finance not only shows the most valuable brands, but also the most influential ones. Thanks to the massive success of the last episode of the cult Star Wars saga, Disney has made its way to the top of this list, which includes, for example, ESPN, Pixar, Marvel and, last but not least, Lucasfilm, the company behind Star Wars.

Disney managed to leapfrog Lego. The cosmetics and fashion brand L'Oréal finished third. Only Google made it into the top ten most influential brands from the technology world, in tenth place.
