Over the past two years, the latest telecommunications standard for mobile networks, called 5G, has been enjoying ever-increasing popularity. Even before the introduction of the iPhone 11 in 2019, there was constant speculation about whether this Apple phone would bring 5G support or not. In addition, its implementation was delayed by lawsuits between Apple and Qualcomm and the inability of Intel, which was the main supplier of chips for mobile networks at the time, and could not develop its own solution. Fortunately, relations between the Californian companies improved, thanks to which the aforementioned support finally arrived in last year's iPhone 12.

In apple phones, we can now find a modem labeled Snapdragon X55. According to current plans, Apple should switch to the Snapdragon X2021 in 60 and the Snapdragon X20222 in 65, all supplied by Qualcomm itself. In any case, it has been rumored for a long time that Apple is working on the development of its own solution, which would make it significantly more independent. This information has been confirmed in the past by two legitimate sources such as Fast Company and Bloomberg. In addition, the development of the own modem is confirmed by the acquisition of almost the entire mobile modem division of Intel, which now falls under Apple. According to Barclays, Apple chips should support both sub-6GHz and mmWave bands.

This is how Apple boasted about the arrival of 5G in the iPhone 12:

Apple should show off its own solution for the first time in 2023, when it will be deployed in all upcoming iPhones. Renowned analysts from Barclays, namely Blayne Curtis and Thomas O'Malley, have now come up with this information. As for supply chain companies, companies such as Qorvo and Broadcom should benefit from this change. The production itself should then be sponsored by Apple's long-time partner in chip production, the Taiwanese company TSMC.
