As 2021 draws to a close, various rumors centering on what Apple could introduce next are getting stronger. More than half a decade since the company unveiled an entirely new product category with the Apple Watch, all indications are that the next big thing will be truly smart glasses that work with augmented reality. But it is not advisable to look forward prematurely, especially for our people.

There has been speculation about Apple Glass practically since the release of the first Google Glass, in a certain respect they were also considered Steve Jobs. However, that was 10 long years ago. Microsoft then released its HoloLens in 2015 (the second generation came in 2019). Although neither product was a commercial success, the companies didn't really expect it to be. The important fact here was, and still is, that they got hold of the technology and could thus further develop it. ARKit, i.e. the augmented reality platform for iOS devices, was introduced by Apple only in 2017. And this is also when the rumors about its own AR device began to grow stronger. Meanwhile, Apple's hardware and software patents related to AR date back to 2015.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman in his latest edition of the newsletter Power On writes, that Apple is indeed planning its glasses for 2022, but this does not mean that customers will be able to buy them immediately afterwards. According to the report, a scenario similar to the one that occurred with the original iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch will be repeated. So Apple will announce the new product, but it will actually take some time before it actually goes on sale. The original Apple Watch, for example, took a full 227 days before it was actually distributed.

Moderation of passions

Around the time of the debut of the Apple Watch, Tim Cook was already three years into his tenure as CEO, and he was under considerable pressure not only from customers, but above all from investors. So he couldn't wait another 200 days to launch the watch itself. Now the situation is a little different, because the innovation of the company's technology is particularly evident in the computer segment, when it introduces its Apple Silicon chips instead of Intel processors.

Of course, it's important to note that whatever Mark Gurman or even Ming-Chi Kuo are reporting, they're still just analysts drawing information from Apple's supply chain. So their information is not confirmed by the company, which means that everything can still be different in the finals and in fact we can wait much longer than just next year and the year after. In addition, it is expected that after the introduction of Apple Glass, the company will only begin to solve legislative issues, and if the use of glasses will be tied to the use of Siri, it is certain that until we see this voice assistant in our native language, even Apple Glass will not be officially available in our country.
