On the contrary, he tried to hold on tooth and nail to his own Lightning connector, which can be said to have given him better control over the entire segment and helped generate considerable income. Thanks to this, the giant was able to introduce Made for iPhone (MFi) certification and charge accessory manufacturers for each product with this certification.

However, the move to USB-C is inevitable for Apple. In the end, he was forced to take this step by a change in EU legislation, which requires mobile devices to have a single universal connector. And USB-C was chosen for that. Fortunately, thanks to its prevalence and versatility, we can already find it on most devices. But let's go back to apple phones. Quite interesting news is spreading around the change of Lightning to USB-C. And apple growers are not happy about them, quite the opposite. Apple managed to piss off its fans quite a bit by wanting to make the most of the transition.
USB-C with MFi certification
Currently, a relatively accurate leaker made himself heard with new information @ShrimpApplePro, who previously revealed the exact form of the Dynamic Island from the iPhone 14 Pro (Max). According to his information, Apple is going to introduce a similar system in the case of iPhones with a USB-C connector, when certified MFi accessories will be specifically looked at on the market. Of course, it clearly follows that these will primarily be MFi USB-C cables for possible device charging or data transfer. It is also important to mention the principle on which MFi accessories actually work as such. Lightning connectors currently include a smaller integrated circuit used to verify the authenticity of specific accessories. Thanks to it, the iPhone immediately recognizes whether it is a certified cable or not.

As we mentioned above, according to current leaks, Apple is going to deploy exactly the same system in the case of new iPhones with a USB-C connector. But (unfortunately) it doesn't end there. According to everything, it will play a crucial role whether the Apple user uses a certified MFi USB-C cable, or whether, on the contrary, he reaches for an ordinary and uncertified cable. Uncertified cables will be limited by software, which is why they will offer slower data transfer and weaker charging. In this way, the giant sends a clear message. If you want to use the "full potential", you cannot do without authorized accessories.
Abuse of position
This brings us to a slight paradox. As we have already mentioned several times, for many years Apple tried at all costs to keep its own Lightning connector, which was a source of income for it. Many people called this monopolistic behavior, although of course Apple had the right to use its own connector for its own product. But now the giant is taking it to a whole new level. Therefore, it is not surprising that the apple fans are practically furious in the discussions and fundamentally disagree with a similar step. Of course, Apple likes to hide behind the well-known arguments that it acts in the interests of user security and maximum reliability.
Fans even hope that the mentioned leaker is wrong and we will never see this change. This whole situation is practically unimaginable and absurd. It is practically the same as if Samsung allowed its TVs to use their full potential only in combination with an original HDMI cable, while in the case of a non-original/uncertified cable it would only offer a 720p resolution image output. This is a completely absurd situation that is almost unprecedented.

Personally, I only use the cable to connect in the car (and I don't expect any huge data flows there). Otherwise I charge on a magsafe charger and use Airdrop and WiFi.
If I wanted to buy some specialized (more expensive) accessories - for example, I'm currently looking for an iRig sound box to connect an electric guitar, so I'll want it to be certified by Apple. This ensures compatibility and full functionality.
