Server & Hosting Bloomberg today he came with the news that Apple is going to integrate into iOS the function of recognizing the currently playing music through the microphone. For this purpose, there are several applications in the App Store, probably the most famous of them are SoundHound a Shazam. It is with the latter service that Apple is supposed to cooperate in order to bring the function to iOS, which will be directly part of the system.

Over the course of its existence, Shazam has built a massive database against which it compares recorded snippets of reproduced songs to accurately identify the name of the artist and song. This has also earned it 90 million active users who use the app every month. Shazam is available in two versions: free with ads and paid for 5,99 €. A special is also available RED version, the purchase of which will contribute to the (RED) campaign.

The competing operating system Windows Phone has had a similar integrated function for some time, using its own services for this Bing Music. For Apple, this feature would be the next logical step in its music agenda, which it supported last year with iTunes Radio, a competitor Spotify, Pandora and others. According to Bloomberg integration should be part of Siri. So when the user asks "what song is playing now", Siri should be able to find the song using a short recording of the music. It will probably also offer the option to purchase the song in iTunes.

However, it would be nice if music recognition could be done faster, for example within the search menu. Especially when Siri is only available in some languages. Shazam integration should be part of iOS 8, which Apple will reveal on June 2 at Worldwide Developers Conference 2014.
