After the end of yesterday's Keynote, Apple started pre-orders for its Apple Watch Series 5. The new product offers, for example, an always-on display, a built-in compass, options for any combination of case and strap immediately upon purchase, and a number of other novelties. After the Keynote, the watch also got into the hands of journalists. What are their first impressions?

Engadget's Dana Wollman noted that the Apple Watch Series 5 is a slightly less significant upgrade compared to last year's Series 4, which Apple discontinued yesterday. Similar to their predecessors, the Series 5 also has a larger display, offers an ECG function and will be available in 40mm and 44mm variants, the digital crown has not changed in any way.

In their reports, journalists have often emphasized that the difference between the Apple Watch Series 4 and the Apple Watch Series 5 (except for the different materials) is hardly noticeable at first glance. The most frequently mentioned feature is the always-on display and how in passive mode its brightness is reduced and after a tap it lights up fully. Server TechRadar writes that the new generation of smart watches from Apple may not take your breath away like the Apple Watch Series 4, but that the upgrade in the form of an always-on display is key.

The media's attention was also drawn to the new straps and materials used in the Series 5 - but TechCrunch emphasizes that if you opt for some of the new designs, you must expect certain costs.

"Being able to always see the time without having to do a convoluted hand gesture is a big thing that finally makes the Apple Watch a competent watch," said Dieter Bohn of the server The Verge.

Apparently, Apple really cared about the display and took care of even the smallest details. All dials and complications are easily visible even at reduced brightness without activating the display. The brightness turns on when the wrist is raised, by moving down it is possible to dim the display again.
