The introduction of new Apple operating systems is always watched nervously by third-party developers as well as customers. The Californian company regularly adds functions to its systems that until then were offered by third-party applications. This is not the case with the new OS X Yosemite either, but the application Alfred - at least for now - you don't have to worry, the updated Spotlight will not replace the popular helper...

The completely redesigned Spotlight is one of the new features of the new OS X 10.10, which, among other things, also brought design change. Those who knew and used the Alfred application on Mac were clear when introducing the new Spotlight - it was Andrew and Vera Pepeperrel, the developers of the popular utility, who were inspired by the engineers in Cupertino.

Following the example of Alfredo, the new Spotlight has moved to the center of all the action, i.e. to the center of the screen, and will offer many of the same functions as quick searches on the web, in various stores, converting units or opening files. At first glance, it might seem that Alfred has been written off, but you need to take a closer look at the new Spotlight. Then we find out that Alfred from OS X Yosemite will definitely not disappear, as it is they confirm and developers.

“You have to keep in mind that Spotlight's primary goal is to search your files and a few preset web resources. Alfred's primary goal against this is to make your work more efficient with unique tools such as mailbox history, system commands, 1Password bookmarks or Terminal integration," Alfred's developers explain in response to the newly introduced operating system, which will run on most Macs from autumn. "And we're not talking about user workflows and many others."

It is precisely in the so-called workflows, i.e. preset actions that can be set in Alfred and then simply called up, that the application has a significant advantage over the system tool. In addition, the developers are preparing other news. “In fact, we're working on some really cool and awesome news that you'll be hearing about in the coming months. We think they'll get you, and we can't wait to share them," add the developers of Alfredo, who were clearly not blown away by OS X Yosemite, quite the opposite.
