After a year of waiting since the release of OS X Lion, it released its successor - Mountain Lion. If you are not entirely sure whether your Mac is among the supported devices, and if so, how to proceed in the event of an operating system update, this article is exactly for you.
If you decide to upgrade your computer system from Snow Leopard or Lion to Mountain Lion, first make sure that it is even possible to install it on your Mac. Don't expect problems with new models, but users with older Apple computers should check compatibility in advance to avoid disappointment later. The requirements for OS X Mountain Lion are:
- dual-core 64-bit Intel processor (Core 2 Duo, Core 2 Quad, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon)
- ability to boot a 64-bit kernel
- advanced graphics chip
- internet connection for installation
If you are currently using the Lion operating system, you can via the Apple icon in the upper left corner, the menu About This Mac and subsequently Additional information (More Info) to see if your computer is ready for the new beast. We offer a full list of supported models:
- iMac (Mid 2007 and later)
- MacBook (Late 2008 aluminum or Early 2009 and newer)
- MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 and newer)
- MacBook Air (Late 2008 and newer)
- Mac mini (Early 2009 and later)
- Mac Pro (Early 2008 and newer)
- Xserve (Early 2009)
Before you start interfering with the system in any way, back up all your data thoroughly!
Nothing is perfect, and even Apple products can have fatal problems. Therefore, do not underestimate the necessity of continuous backup. The easiest way is to connect an external drive and enable backup on it using time Machine. You can find this indispensable utility in System Preferences (System Preferences) or simply search for it in Spotlight (magnifying glass in the upper right corner of the screen).
To purchase and download OS X Mountain Lion, click the Mac App Store link at the end of the article. You will pay €15,99 for the new operating system, which translates to roughly CZK 400. As soon as you enter the password after clicking the button with the price tag, a new American cougar icon will immediately appear in the Launchpad indicating the download in progress. Once the download is complete, the installer will start and guide you step by step. In a few moments, your Mac will be running on the latest feline.
For those who are not satisfied with just the update or are experiencing problems with the currently installed system, we are preparing instructions for creating the installation media and a guide for the subsequent clean installation.

It's just that (probably due to store overload) it throws an error message ;(
It happened to me the first time
and what internet provider do you have? it probably depends on where it flows
Those fools from Upc
It happened to me the first time
I have a MacBook white, bought in June 2011, so ML should be fine. But when I look in About this mac, I have NO for Kernel... so now I don't understand :)
great, when will there be an article about clean installation?
It will be, perhaps today.
Unfortunately, it cannot be downloaded. "There was an error in the App Store. Please try again later. (100)"
Close the App Store, sign out, restart your Mac, sign in, open the App Store, and it should download
15:20, still error, can't download
Isn't it already sold out? :D
Oh yeah, hell..
I'm also clicking around and hoping that something will happen...
I wonder if I've already tried 10 times if they will take my money 10 times too :-(
but mainly it is special that only the lion. the iPhoto update has started to download and it works fine.
M also got updates without any problems, only the lion doesn't work :-(

there are 5 new updates in the update, but it's probably not worth downloading, right?

If you're only going to do an update, you can do a clean install, then it's useless :-(
Constant error :(
Constant error :(
Has anyone managed to download it yet?
I normally download but it's overloaded so it will take 9 hours :)
it's already running :-) after half an hour of testing
Well, it's downloading..in an hour and a half it will be downloaded..great..:)
Where do you see yourself, how long will it take to download? Somehow I don't see it :-)
Thanks.
"Purchases"...
Jeez, aha, thank you :-D
For example, in the "App Store" the item "Purchases" :)
Hooray, downloading now :-)
such crowd strength, everyone shoves their 4s, through windows, under doors, chimneys :-D Microsoft probably can't believe their eyes when they have to write EULA on their laptop so it looks like it can be returned to the store and it can't....
I also want to be able to sell like this...
I bought a Mac a month ago, so I tried the up to date program, which is getting Mountain Lion for free. I received two emails. The first contained a password-protected pdf file in the attachment and the second the password to unlock it. The pdf file contained a reedem code to the App Store, but after entering it, a message popped up saying that the code had already been used and could not be used more than once. So another complication on Apple's side. Between entering the password and rereading the code, a maximum of a minute passed, and it wrote to me immediately after the first entry into the App Store. I wonder what the support will answer me...
I have exactly the same problem. In the attachment, I received a code for the App Store, and after entering it, the app wrote "This code has already been used." Each code may only be used once,, Well, I'm not going to send an e-mail to support... yeah.
Since I bought the latest Macbook Air a month ago, how do I download it without paying?
I've already entered twice, now I have two codes and I haven't received a single email yet, the first time it said something wrong, and the second time it keeps writing to me from the United States, while I wrote there in the first Slovakia....
I bought a new Macbook Air with the intention of having a free update to Mountain Lion. I filled out the application for a free update, but I had a lot of inaccuracies in the application, such as multiplying the first name, address in the USA, missing the option to choose a Macbook Air (penultimate page). Even so, I sent the request. Nothing came to the mail. So I repeated the request, but I could no longer use the serial number. So I called support and was told that a lot of users are calling with similar problems, the servers are overloaded and the code I didn't receive is invalid, etc. etc... Unfortunately, they probably deleted my request and I will be able to send a new one, but I have to wait until the first wave will pass... Then everything should work as it should...
Ok, I'll try tonight too, I already have two codes:) And no email, let's see :)
New discovery... request not deleted, so there is a message that this serial number has already been used, but it was enough to click Next 4 times and I am on a page that was not available before. This is a page where you need to insert a photo or scanned proof of purchase. However, nothing can be inserted here... The question is, were you asked to insert the proof of purchase when you initially sent the requests? So I don't…
After another phone call to support, I was told that the main error is in the place, i.e. where the system threw us the USA, it should have been the Czech Republic. Therefore, in my case, the mail did not arrive. I was promised to send an email to support in America, where I should request to deregister the location.
I'm downloading right now but it's slow...it'll take like a day :-(
I'm downloading right now but it's slow...it'll take like a day :-(
So 10 more minutes. and hopefully it will be…
I want to ask people what is the difference between today's version and the GM version? thanks for the anwers
Hi, everything downloaded and installed without the slightest problem. All data remained. So great!!! It runs much faster.
Hello, I have requested a free copy and am waiting for it to be processed. Does anyone know how long it will take them?
Does lightroom work with it?
Is this build compatible with GM? (12A269)
year
ask at 15:10 I applied for a free copy in the up-to-date program and I still haven't received a single email... has anyone had a similar experience? Should I try to submit the request again or try to wait? or where can I call? Thank you
I have the same problem, posted for several hours now and no response. Telephone support only works until 17 p.m., so there is no place to ask. I tried to send the request again, but it doesn't work anymore, it says that the SN is already used.. :/
When I updated with Lion, I received a redeem code after some 8-9 days. Who will wait…
so now I don't know if I should wait for the redeem code or buy it straight away and not wait :D ... the 400 won't kill me, but it's a shame that Apple doesn't have it better, they could have expected it and started it earlier and you just sent out automatic emails in release day…. Oh no
It's a pain, I'm also waiting and still no mail...
I installed it and the biggest disappointment for me is the new Safari. The RSS reader and Activity disappeared. Pres Activity could be downloaded from Youtube. So another change for the better.
Safari 6 is also available for OX X Lion, so even if you haven't updated to Mountain Lion, you should still have it. I quite like it :-)))
How did the reader disappear??? What do you mean? They just moved it from the address bar right next to it... and the new safari is just great
I don't know what you consider a reader, Reader or RSS. I'm not interested in Reader! The RSS reader has disappeared! So you are forced to use third-party readers, which are problems with using two programs. I'm switching to FireFox, this is the end of Safari for me. It became something unnecessary.
Downloaded and installed in approx. 1,5 hours... everything went smoothly without the slightest problem, on my mac mini 2010 it seems faster than lion.. absolute satisfaction, I like the minor design changes, font, new functions I'm still testing but who owns any iOS, so installing mountain lion is a must :-)
I can probably say that Apple screwed up the Launchpad grandiosely and it remains unusable and uncontrollable even with Launchpad Control.
One thing I can't understand here is that no one minds that Apple removed the integrated RSS reader from Safari! This is something incomprehensible, don't they respect people? Buying another application like Reeder doesn't mean anything to me. It is another running application. I had many RSS feeds in Safari, and I could see where something had been added to the pages, including Jablickare. Do I have to use Reeder for reading or something else? So what is Safari for? The integration of the RSS reader in Safari had its importance and the convenience of reading news. I don't know what the new version of Safari will do for me. I really don't understand some steps of the developer, why didn't they leave it there? Those who used it were glad for it, and those who didn't didn't even notice it. I switched to Firefox, the reader is there but it's not the same, the unread message indicator or the indication that something new has been sent is missing, as it was originally in Safari. This thing is indigestible for me, especially since a lot of nonsense has been added around notifications. I'm pretty pissed and I'm surprised that I'm alone, don't people respect that?
It's not that people don't read... But they probably use other methods... Maybe you'd do better if you write to apple support, if most of the people who don't have an rss reader do it, apple will probably return it ;)
How about adding an RSS reader add-on to Safari :-)
It is true that there is no supplement that would fully replace the original reader. Just the way it was, it was simply brilliant! It's a big shame, I already wrote to support. It's a loss for me. I don't understand Apple, it wants to get rid of its dependence on Google and in doing so it is driving users to its Google reader, I also have it set up and use it occasionally, but it's just not the same. I don't know what leads them to this, because instead of sitting with Safari and reading, the user will be chasing after some very strange books! What kind of politics is this? I deleted Safari from my computer and replaced it with Firefox. This is the result of the work of an apple developer, I would like to follow the opinion of Steve Jobs. I remember very well how Safari introduced RSS at its keynote. But I guess I'm an old dog who doesn't keep up with the times or something. As they say, every change is for the worse, and it's not that I'm a pessimist, it's just experience.
It's hell without an RSS reader!
Hello, what is your experience with OS X Mountain Lion? Are you satisfied or disappointed? Has Mac performance increased or decreased? Thanks in advance for the answers :-)))
so how are you doing with your applications? I still haven't received anything and I sent it on 25.7/15 right after XNUMXpm, oh yeah :/
A while ago I received an email with a redeem code
I also waited after 20h... :)
Query!
I applied to the Up-To-Date program and I ran out of answers. But when I enter the content code that I received in the email in the apple store, it always says that my code is not valid...does anyone know how to proceed? Thanks:)
I personally received 2 emails where I used the code from one to unlock the attachment from the other, and in the attachment I found a redeem code
so I've already decided to break it up. Thanks for the info :)
