In recent weeks, Czech online and brick-and-mortar stores have been flooded with significant Black Friday discounts. Many of the biggest players launched their promotions already in the middle of the month, but we didn't see the biggest discounts until the actual Black Friday, November 23rd. One of the most interesting offers was also prepared by the largest domestic e-shop Alza.cz, which ended its Black Friday only two days ago, on Sunday, December 2. Following this, Alza published the statistics of this year's shopping spree, and in addition to a turnover of 2 billion crowns, it is also interesting that the best-selling product was Apple's AirPods headphones.

For this year's Black Friday, Alza prepared the widest assortment in its history, as discounts fell on 2,5 thousand products. More than 5 million people viewed the offer in the Czech Republic alone, and 1,6 million in Slovakia. Black Friday means a traditional stress test for Alza before the peak of the season, when the company's turnover increases by tens of percent compared to the rest of the year and website traffic exceeds 1,5 million visits per day.

In total, Alza sold almost 2,4 million items during Black Friday, which mainly included phones, laptops and home electronics. This year, however, the biggest hit was the AirPods headphones, which, according to Jan Sadílek, marketing director, Alza.cz, sold thousands of units. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox game consoles also did very well, selling more than twice as much compared to last year.

The Czech number one in the field of e-shops discounted AirPods during Black Friday to CZK 3, which is a discount of a thousand crowns compared to Apple's standard. Although it was not the lowest price on the Czech internet, it still convinced many interested parties to buy. For customers, the status of an authorized Apple dealer, the easier pick-up of goods at branches and the simpler process of any complaints are probably decisive for customers.

The iPhones sold out within hours

But AirPods weren't the only Apple product that did well during Black Friday. According to Alza, some iPhone models sold out the fastest, and thanks to attractive discounts, they disappeared in a matter of hours. The e-shop offered discounted iPhone X, iPhone 8 and also the dreaded iPhone 6s, which could be purchased for CZK 8. Alza did not disclose the specific number of units sold, but according to the data on the event page, it can be deduced that it was in the higher hundreds reaching up to a thousand units.
