Yesterday afternoon, Apple presented new products as expected. However, there was no traditional presentation in the form of a conference, but only through a press release, which in itself means that the new products are not groundbreaking enough to have a conference dedicated to them. Specifically, we saw the new iPad Pro, the 10th generation iPad and the new 4rd generation Apple TV 3K. However, if we said that the new products are no different from the original ones, we would be lying. In this article, we will take a look at 5 things you may not have known about the new iPad Pro.

ProRes support

One of the main innovations that the new iPad Pro comes with is definitely support for the ProRes format. Specifically, the new iPad Pro is capable of hardware acceleration of not only H.264 and HEVC codecs, but also ProRes and ProRes RAW. In addition, there is also an engine for encoding and re-encoding both classic video and ProRes format. It should be mentioned that the new iPad Pro can not only process ProRes, but of course also capture it, specifically using the wide-angle camera in up to 4K resolution at 30 FPS, or in 1080p resolution at 30 FPS if you purchase the basic version with storage capacity 128 GB.

Wireless interfaces and SIM

Among other things, the new iPad Pro also received an update to the wireless interfaces. Specifically, this is how Wi-Fi 6E support comes, and this is the very first Apple product - not even the latest iPhone 14 (Pro) offers it. In addition, we also got a Bluetooth update to version 5.3. Additionally, it is important to mention that despite the removal of the SIM card slot from the iPhone 14 (Pro) in the United States, the same decision has not been made for the iPad Pro. You can still connect to the mobile network using either a physical Nano-SIM or a modern eSIM. Another interesting thing is that the new iPad Pro has completely stopped supporting GSM/EDGE, so the classic "two gecko" will no longer work on it.

Different operating memory

Many Apple users do not know this at all, but the iPad Pro is sold in two configurations in terms of operating memory, which depends on the storage capacity you choose. If you buy an iPad Pro with 128 GB, 256 GB or 512 GB of storage, you will automatically get 8 GB of RAM, and if you go for 1 TB or 2 TB of storage, 16 GB of RAM will automatically be available. This means that users cannot choose their own combination, i.e. less storage and more RAM (or vice versa), as is the case with Macs, for example. We encounter this "division" both in the previous generation and in the new one, so nothing has changed. Anyway, I think it is important to communicate this matter.

Features of the M2 chip

A huge change in the new iPad Pro is also the new chip. While the previous generation boasted "only" the M1 chip, the new one already has the M2 chip, which we already know from the MacBook Air and 13″ MacBook Pro. As you probably know, with Apple computers with M2 you can choose whether you want a configuration with 8 CPU cores and 8 GPU cores, or with 8 CPU cores and 10 GPU cores. However, with the new iPad Pro, Apple does not give you any choice and specifically has a better version of the M2 chip, which therefore offers 8 CPU cores and 10 GPU cores. In a way, you can say that this makes the iPad Pro more powerful than the basic MacBook Air and 13″ Pro. In addition, the M2 boasts 16 Neural Engine cores and a memory throughput of 100 GB/s.

Marking on the back

If you've ever held an iPad Pro in your hand, you've probably noticed that there's only the word iPad on its back at the bottom. An uninitiated person might think that it is an ordinary iPad, which of course is not true, as it is the exact opposite. Not only for this reason, Apple has decided to finally change the label on the back of the new iPad Pro. This specifically means that instead of the iPad label, we will now find a full-fledged iPad Pro label, so everyone will immediately know what they have the honor of.
