Apple introduced many products at its September event. The very first was the 9th generation iPad. It's an improved entry-level tablet, and while it lacks the new bezel-less design, it could still be a great solution for many users. The company's tablet lineup has grown significantly since the launch of the first iPad in 2010. While in the past Apple only offered one variant, now it provides different options for different target groups. We have iPad, iPad mini, iPad Air and iPad Pro here. As the company has added high-end features to its more expensive devices that not everyone will use, there's still a base model that doesn't have all the latest and greatest technology, but still offers a great experience for those who want an iPad at a more affordable price.

It's still an iPad with iPadOS

Even if the 9th generation iPad doesn't have such a great bezel-less design and lacks things like Face ID, it's true that the average user can do almost the same things with it as with any more expensive Apple solution. Regardless of the hardware, the iPadOS operating system is the same for all iPad models, although higher models may add some extra functionality. On the other hand, it can also limit their users in a certain respect compared to a desktop system, which is definitely not the case for an ordinary user. From the iPad 9 to the iPad Pro with the M1 chip, all current models run the same iPadOS 15 and can also use all its core features, such as multitasking with multiple apps side-by-side, desktop widgets, Quick Notes, improved FaceTime, Focus mode and more. And of course, users can always expand its functionality with a wealth of content from the App Store, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, LumaFusion and others.

It's still faster than the competition

The new 9th generation iPad features the A13 Bionic chip, which is the same chip Apple used in the iPhone 11 and iPhone SE 2nd generation. Although this is a two-year-old chip, it is still quite powerful by today's standards. In fact, this iPad probably still performs better than any other tablet or computer in the same price range. Plus, it's guaranteed a long line of system updates from the company, so it'll keep up with you. Apple has the advantage of tuning both hardware and software. For this reason, its products do not become obsolete as quickly as those of competitors. In addition, the company works with RAM memory in a completely different way. Apple does not even state what is an important figure for the competition. But in case you're wondering, the 9th generation iPad has 3GB of RAM, the same as its predecessor. E.g. the price-matched Samsung Galaxy S6 Lite packs 4GB of RAM.

It is cheaper than previous models

The basic draw of the basic iPad is its basic price. It costs CZK 9 for the 990GB version. It simply means that you save compared to the 64th generation. The price after the start of sales is the same, but this year's novelty has doubled the internal storage. If last year 8 GB did not seem like a very suitable purchase, this year the situation is simply different. 32 GB will be enough for all less demanding users (after all, even the more demanding ones in combination with iCloud). Of course, the competition can be cheaper, but we can no longer talk too much about the comparable performance, functions and options that a tablet at the price level of ten thousand CZK will bring you. Of course, this also takes into account the fact that you already own an Apple device. There is incredible power in its ecosystem.

It has more affordable accessories

The base product may not offer support for expensive accessories. Support for the first generation Apple Pencil is therefore completely logical. On the contrary, support for its second generation would not make sense. Why would you want to save on a tablet when you want to invest in such an expensive accessory? It's the same with the Smart Keyboard, which is compatible with iPads from the 7th generation and you can connect it to the 3rd generation iPad Air or the 10,5-inch iPad Pro.

It has a better front camera

In addition to the improved chip, Apple also upgraded the front camera in this year's entry-level iPad. It is newly 12-megapixel and ultra-wide-angle. Of course, it not only provides noticeably better photo and video quality, but also brings the Centering function - a function that was previously exclusive to the iPad Pro and which automatically keeps the user in the center of the image during a video call. And even though it may not look like that at first glance, the iPad is simply the ideal device for "home" communication and content consumption. Not only for adults, but also for children and students.
