Apple tablets have been in the world for eight years. They have naturally evolved and improved over time with each new model, and this year's new iPad Pros were no different. What makes the latest 12,9-inch and XNUMX-inch iPad Pro better than their predecessors?

This year's models catch your eye at first sight - they are visually noticeably different from previous models, and their design is largely adapted to the second generation Apple Pencil. So let's focus on what makes the new iPad Pros different from their older siblings.

Size matters

Just a quick look at the new iPad Pro and it's clear to all of us that we're in for a completely new and different tablet. Bezels and all sides have dramatically receded to the edges of the device and let the improved display stand out better. Apple compares the larger version of the new iPad Pro to a sheet of paper in terms of size, while the device is thinner and slimmer than the previous model. The height of the smaller version has not changed much, and the width of the smaller iPad has even increased a little - this concession was made by Apple in the interest of a larger and better display.

It's about the display

Apple left the display of this year's 12,9-inch iPad Pro practically unchanged - it kept the same resolution and ppi, only the corners were rounded. The display of the smaller version has already undergone certain changes: the most significant is the extension of its diagonal, but there has also been an increase in resolution. With the iOS 12 operating system came new gestures for opening the Dock, switching between applications and opening the Control Center - these gestures work on both last year's and this year's iPad models.

Touch ID is dead, long live Face ID

The dramatic narrowing of the bezels on the new iPad Pro was made possible, among other things, by the fact that Apple removed the Home button from the new tablets and with it the Touch ID function. It was replaced by the new Face ID identification technology, which is more secure. Biometric sensors work in the new tablets in both vertical and horizontal positions.

USB-C

This year's iPad Pro will go down in history for one more important reason: it is the first iOS device ever to replace the Lightning port with a USB-C port. With its help, the new Apple tablets can be connected to external monitors with a resolution of up to 5K. USB-C on the new iPad Pro can also be used for charging or importing photos from external storage.

Speed and space

When designing its own CPUs, Apple tries to make its devices faster and faster every year. The new iPad Pros are equipped with the Apple A12X Bionic chip, which the Cupertino company promises is 90% faster compared to last year's models. Some people still tend to think of the iPad as a tool mainly for entertainment. But Apple has a different opinion, which is why it equipped this year's models with a respectable 1TB of storage. The other variants remained unchanged.
