Dynamic wallpapers and screensavers

Along with the macOS Sonoma operating system, Apple also introduced dynamic wallpapers and screensavers with breathtaking shots of cities or natural scenery. When the screensaver starts, the camera starts from the background image and flies through the air or underwater. When you exit the screen saver, the video slows down and settles into a new static image. To activate and possibly customize them, run on your Mac System Settings -> Wallpaper, select the desired theme and activate the item View as screen saver.

Desktop widgets

Widgets have been in the notification center for years, but in macOS Sonoma they've finally moved to the desktop where you can always see them. Desktop widgets are interactive, allowing you to tick off reminders or play podcasts without opening the widget's associated app. Run to activate the widgets System Settings -> Desktop and Dock and head to the section Widgets, where you can also set the display of widgets from your iPhone.

Quick desktop view

Viewing the desktop used to be a bit tricky in previous versions of macOS – you either had to minimize all apps one by one or you had to press a key combination Command + Mission Control (or Command+F3). But in macOS Sonoma, displaying the desktop is much easier - just click on the desktop. If this display method does not work for you, make sure that you do not have click desktop display disabled. Run it System Settings -> Desktop and Dock, and in the section Desktop and Stage Manager make sure you are in the item dropdown menu Click on the wallpaper to view the desktop activated the item Always.

Web apps from Safari in the Dock

Sometimes you might want a website to work more like an app that you can quickly access on your Mac. Fortunately, the macOS Sonoma operating system has provided a way to achieve this. First, visit the website you want to save in Safari (this doesn't work in other browsers) and click on File -> Add to Dock. Name the web application and select Add. This will add it to the Dock. Although you can remove a website from the Dock, it will still be accessible in Launchpad in case you want to add it to the Dock again.

Game mode

Apple has managed to turn the latest generation Macs into fairly capable gaming machines that can handle even more demanding games. As part of these steps, Apple also introduced a new game mode in the macOS Sonoma operating system, the essence of which is to improve performance by stabilizing the frame rate and prioritizing games over other tasks. It turns on every time you start the game in full screen — whether in exclusive full-screen mode, maximized window, or something else — so you don't have to do much in that regard. Game mode is available on Macs with Apple Silicon chips.
