In recent months, it has been getting dark already in the late afternoon, which is not exactly ideal for most of us. Unfortunately, the dark winter months are over and the whole of spring is ahead of us, together with summer. As a result, the days are getting longer and while not long ago, for example, you could walk home from work practically in the dark, you will soon enjoy the light to the fullest. If you are still one of those people who work best at night, then this article will come in handy, in which we look at 5 tips and tricks that will make using your Mac in the dark more enjoyable.

Use Night Shift or Flux

Every screen and display radiates blue light, which can be unpleasant especially in the evening hours - it can even have a negative effect on your health. Blue light significantly tires the eyes, which can cause headaches, inability to fall asleep, insomnia and more. Fortunately, there are functions or applications that can eliminate blue light in the evening. A native Night Shift feature is available in macOS, in System Preferences -> Monitors -> Night Shift. However, you won't find any customization options with this native feature - everything works automatically. If you would like to use a better and more sophisticated application, then reach for the one with the name Flow.

You can download Flux using this link

Choose a dynamic wallpaper

With the arrival of macOS 10.14 Mojave, we saw dynamic wallpapers that automatically change according to what time it is. While the wallpaper is light in the morning and during the day, it starts to darken in the late afternoon, until it becomes completely dark in the evening and at night. If you do not have a dynamic wallpaper set, then move to System Preferences -> Desktop & Saver -> Desktop, where at the top of the menu click on Dynamic and choose the one you like. Some users even prefer setting a completely black wallpaper, which is also one of the ideal options to make working in the evening and night hours more pleasant.

Activate dark mode

Just as we saw dynamic wallpapers in macOS 10.14 Mojave, Apple has finally added a dark mode to the system for Apple computers. You can activate it either "hard", or it can change automatically according to the current time. If you don't have a dark mode set on your Mac, or if you don't even have automatic mode switching set up, activation is of course not complicated at all. Just go to System Preferences -> General, where at the top select next to the text Appearance possibility Dark whether Automatically.

Use a reader

If you are one of those people who like to read the news at night, then use a reader on specific websites - if possible, of course. To activate reader mode, you must first go to a specific news website in Safari and open it article. Then in the left part of the address bar, click on outlined paper icon. This will make the specific article appear in reader mode. To change the background color, ideal for black, or fonts, click on in the right part of the address bar aA icon, and then make the required adjustments. To exit the reader mode, click again on the described paper icon in the left part of the address bar.

(Automatic) dimming

In order to use your Mac comfortably at night, it is absolutely crucial that you have automatic brightness active, or that you manually adjust it to a minimum value. In this way, you can significantly reduce eye strain. High brightness combined with blue light is an absolute eye killer. The full potential of the screen brightness can be used mainly during the day, but not during the night. To activate automatic brightness, open System Preferences -> Monitors, where below activate the option Adjust brightness automatically.
