With the arrival of iOS 16, we also saw several new features in the native Messages application. Some of these news are directly related to the iMessage service, others are not, in any case, it is absolutely true that most of them are really long overdue and we should ideally have waited for them several long years ago. So let's take a look together in this article at 5 new options in Messages from iOS 16 that you need to know.

Recover deleted messages

Quite possibly, you have ever found yourself in a situation where you accidentally deleted some messages, or even an entire conversation, despite a warning. Just a little inattention and it can happen to anyone. Until now, there was no way to recover deleted messages, so you simply had to say goodbye to them. However, this changes in iOS 16, and if you delete a message or conversation, you can restore it for 30 days, just like in the Photos app, for example. To view the deleted messages section, just tap on the top left Edit → View Recently Deleted.

Editing a sent message

One of the main features in Messages from iOS 16 is definitely the ability to edit a sent message. So far, we've only dealt with an error message by overwriting it and marking it with an asterisk, which works, but isn't as elegant. To edit a sent message, all you have to do is they held a finger on her and then tapped on Edit. Then it's enough overwrite the message and tap on a pipe in a blue circle. Messages can be edited up to 15 minutes after sending, with both parties able to view the original text. At the same time, both parties must have iOS 16 installed for proper functionality.

Deleting a sent message

In addition to being able to edit messages in iOS 16, we can finally delete them, which is a feature that the competing chat app has been offering for several years and is an absolute staple. So if you've sent a message to the wrong contact, or if you've simply sent something you didn't want, there's nothing you can do about it. To delete a sent message, all you have to do is they held their finger on her, and then tapped on Cancel send. Messages can be deleted up to 2 minutes after sending, with information about this fact appearing to both parties. Even in this case, both sides must have iOS 16 for functionality.

Marking a message as unread

If you open any unread message in the Messages application, it will logically be automatically marked as read. But the truth is that in some situations you can open a message by mistake or simply unintentionally, because you don't have time to respond or deal with it. However, after reading it, it usually happens that you forget about the message and simply don't return to it, so you don't reply at all. In order to prevent this, Apple added a new function in iOS 16, thanks to which it is possible to mark a read message as unread again. It's enough that you swipe left to right in Messages after a conversation.

View content you're collaborating on

You can collaborate with other users in selected applications, such as Notes, Reminders, Safari, Files, etc. If you use this feature often, it can be difficult to get an overview of what you are collaborating on with specific people. However, Apple also thought of this and added a special section to Messages in iOS 16, in which you can see exactly what you are collaborating on with the selected contact. To view this section, go to news, where open a conversation with the person in question, and then at the top, click on his name with an avatar. Then it's enough go down to the section Cooperation.
