The iPhone X became the first ever Apple phone to feature Face ID biometric protection, which works on the basis of a 3D facial scan. Until now, Face ID is located in the cutout at the top of the screen and consists of several parts - an infrared camera, a projector of invisible dots and a TrueDepth camera. In order to simply show its fans what Face ID, i.e. the TrueDepth camera, can do, Apple introduced Animoji and later also Memoji, i.e. animals and characters to which users can transfer their feelings and expressions in real time. Since then, of course, Apple has been constantly improving Memoji, and we have also seen the news in iOS 16. Let's take a look at them together.

Settings for contacts

You can add a photo to each iOS contact for easier recognition. However, this is not possible in all cases, as finding the ideal photo for a contact is often difficult. But the good news is that in iOS 16 you can replace the classic contact photo with Memoji. Just go to the app Contact (or Phone → Contacts), where are you find and click the selected contact. Then at the top right, press Adjust and subsequently on add a photo. Then just click on the section Memoji and make settings.

New stickers

Until recently, Memoji were only available for newer iPhones with Face ID. This is still true in a way, but so that other users are not cheated, Apple decided to add the option to create your own Memoji even on older devices, together with the option of using stickers. This means that users of iPhones without Face ID have practically nothing but the real-time "transfer" of their emotions and expressions to Memoji. There are already a lot of Memoji stickers available, but in iOS 16, Apple has expanded their number even further.

Other headgear

Are you one of those people who often wear head coverings and those around you can't imagine you without them? If so, you will certainly appreciate the fact that Apple has added several new headgear styles to Memoji in iOS 16. In particular, we have seen the addition of a cap, so that absolutely everyone can choose from headgear in Memoji.

New hair types

If you look at the selection of hair in Memoji right now, you will surely believe me when I say that there is more than enough of it available - whether it is hair that is more suitable for men or, conversely, for women. Even so, Apple said that some types of hair are simply missing. If you still haven't found the hair that's right for you, then in iOS 16 you simply have to. Apple added seventeen more to the existing hair types.

More choice from noses and lips

We have already talked about new headgear and even new types of hair. But we are still not finished. If you couldn't create an identical Memoji because you couldn't find the perfect nose or lips, Apple tried to improve in iOS 16. Several new types are available for noses and new colors for lips, thanks to which you can set them even more precisely.
