The introduction of the very first version of iOS 15 took place many months ago. Currently, our Apple phones are already running iOS 15.3, with another update around the corner in the form of iOS 15.4. With these minor updates, we often come across various interesting features that are definitely worth it - and it's absolutely the same with iOS 15.4. Let's look together in this article at the 5 main novelties that we can look forward to in iOS 15.4.

Unlocking an iPhone with a mask

All newer iPhones use Face ID biometric protection, which is a direct successor to the original Touch ID. Instead of a fingerprint scan, it performs a 3D face scan. Face ID is safe and works perfectly fine, but with the advent of the pandemic, masks that cover a large part of the face have made the functionality worse, so this system cannot work. Apple relatively soon came up with a function that allows you to unlock the iPhone with the mask on if you own an Apple Watch. However, this is not a solution for absolutely all users. In iOS 15.4, however, this is to change, and the iPhone will be able to recognize you even with a mask, by detailed scanning of the area around the eyes. The only downside is that only iPhone 12 and newer owners will enjoy this feature.

Anti-tracking function for AirTag

Some time ago, Apple introduced its location tags called AirTags. These tags are part of the Find service network and thanks to this we can find them even if they are located on the other side of the globe - it is enough for a person with an Apple device to pass by the AirTag, which will capture and then transmit the signal and location information . But the problem is that it is possible to use AirTag to spy on people, even though Apple initially offered measures to prevent this unfair use. As part of iOS 15.4, these anti-tracking features will be expanded. When the AirTag is paired for the first time, users will be presented with a window informing them that tracking people using the Apple tracker is not allowed, and that it is a crime in many states. In addition, there will be an option to set the delivery of notifications to a nearby AirTag or the option to search for a foreign AirTag locally - but of course only after the iPhone notifies you of its presence.

Better password filling

As you surely know, a part of practically every Apple system is the Keychain on iCloud, in which you can save practically all passwords and usernames for your accounts. As part of iOS 15.4, saving passwords in Keychain will receive a great improvement that will please absolutely everyone. Quite possibly, when saving user account information, you have accidentally saved only the password, without the username. If you subsequently wanted to log in using this record, only the password was entered, without the username, which had to be entered manually. In iOS 15.4, before saving a password without a username, the system will notify you of this fact, so you will no longer save records incorrectly.

Downloading iOS updates over cellular data

Regular updates are extremely important, because only in this way, in addition to new functions, can you ensure security when using not only an Apple phone. In addition to the applications, you also need to update the system itself. As for applications, we have been able to download applications and their updates from the App Store via mobile data for a long time. However, in the case of iOS updates, this was not possible and you had to be connected to Wi-Fi to download. However, this should change with the arrival of iOS 15.4. For now, it is not clear whether this option will only be available on the 5G network, i.e. for iPhones 12 and newer, or whether we will also see it for the 4G/LTE network, which even older iPhones are capable of.

Automation without trigger notification

As part of iOS 13, Apple came up with a new Shortcuts application, in which you can create different sequences of tasks that are designed to simplify daily functioning. Later we also saw automation, i.e. sequences of tasks that are performed automatically when a certain condition occurs. The use of post-launch automations was miserable as iOS didn't allow them to start automatically and you had to start them manually. Gradually, however, he began to remove this restriction for most types of automation, but with the fact that a notification about this fact will always be displayed after the automation is executed. As part of iOS 15.4, it will be possible to deactivate these notifications that inform about the execution of the automation for personal automations. Finally, automations will be able to run in the background without any user notification - finally!
